Perhaps you should go visit Bumfuck Nowhere Europe if you really want an apt comparison to Versailles, MO. Shockingly, you've discovered that there are prettier buildings in a capital city than in the middle of American farming land.

The "Welfare Queen" myth is that the benfits of welfare are so good that women are living in luxury off the system, therefore the benefits are too generous and disincentize actual work. The woman you linked was using multiple identities to pull in multiple welfare checks as well as committing insurance fraud. So I would say it's still a myth.

There never has been any :bahgawd: Eliminate income tax in Kansas! :bahgawd: supporters in this thread, has there? Easier to turn a blind eye to the flaming ball of poop if you're a tea party Kansas voter?

Florida has no income tax -- but has massive sales tax to compensate. They also have tourism that suits taxing the heck out of visitors, anyway. Idk how well pure sales tax for revenue would work in a primary-production agribiz state. Based on what I'm reading, Kansas hasn't really kicked up sales tax enough to compensate for this poo poo, and etailers without offices in Kansas can provide the middle and upper classes their expensive goods without Kansas sales tax anyway.

I hate the term flyover country but it seriously describes 90% of Kansas. I'm from Topeka but my family's from a small town near St. Joseph and though I haven't been there in years, I remember there being quite a few "gently caress the government" types there that also spent a majority of their money at the local casino.

Basically, bomb everything that isn't Northeastern Kansas or Wichita in that state.

We also don't have industries to support going tax free. Texas can do it because they have the oil industry, Florida can do it because they have tourism. Kansas doesn't have any of that ON TOP of what you are saying about the bulk of the population living within an hour of the border.

That thing pisses me off so much. Clean it up and let it be a park, instead of a loving Walmart with luxury condos on top with a park on the roof. What the hell are they thinking?

Filling out my overseas ballot for Sedgwick County.

There are 21 district judges, a state board of education member, a county treasurer, a county clerk, and a register of deeds running unopposed. All Republican.

Of the seven offices on the ballot with more than just a Republican, the Republican is always listed first, with the order of the other parties seemingly randomized after that.

EDIT: Done. +1 to Hillary in the national popular vote, though of no use otherwise. It was also personally enjoyable to vote against Moran and Pompeo, though that will also ultimately be in vain. I voted to retain all of the Kansas Supreme Court and all of the Appeals Court judges basically because Brownback has been messing around with them, and gently caress that guy, even though I know absolutely nothing about the individual judges. Also voted against the hunting and fishing constitutional amendment out of spite for the rear end in a top hat Kansans I had to deal with while I lived there. I don't want them having things they would like.

In Johnson County I believe they are in candidate alphabetical order. At least here, you can go to the county election board website to see the sample ballot for your address.

Regarding the poster who asked about a list of candidates and their positions: Kansas is part of https://votesmart.org this year - your candidates may have answered their Political Courage Survey, which asks for black/white positions on issues that politicians are known for squirming on.

If you want a ray of hope for this election in KS, quite a few of Sam's Gang lost their primaries to more moderate R challengers. The state Democratic party has fielded more candidates to challenge the rest. Nice to hear candidates speaking with a pretty unified message in both camps and more voters seeing the light.

I'm a challenger in one of the House races, and it's a.) good to see some Kansan goons talking about our state and b.) embarrassing to me that my home state became known nationally for stupid fiscal policy.

Does anyone know why Brownback seems to hate Kansas Neurological Institute specifically? There are rumors going around that some state hospitals might actually see some raises, but absolutely definitely not KNI. Did it just happen to be first on his list of socialist hellholes to close, and since it survived he's sworn vengeance like a good devout Christian would?
