The grassland between the Quarry and the Copper mine is the best place (+3 adjacency) (edit: whoops, I mean just as good). Check to see if your other two cities below it are within 6, though. That's one of the most important placement criteria for IZs. For instance, It's worth losing +1 adjacency to move it one tile south-east if it gets another city in range.

I savescummed :shobon: and moved it there. It will get +3 from mines/quarry there and potentially another +1.5 from districts. And it's 2 tiles from the city directly south and exactly 6 tiles away from the liberated Russian capital :circlefap: What sort of bonus do you get for being within 6 tiles away from another city? Can't find anything about it in the civpedia.

Ectobiology sure does involve a lot of button pushing.
Quick mechanics question regarding Natural Wonders. Are the yields from those tiles affected by Pantheon beliefs? I had a city next to Pantanal, and had picked up Lady of the Reeds and Marshes for the +1 production from it. However, the map didn't seem to reflect that as a benefit.

The Factory and Power Plant buildings provide +3/+4 production respectively, but critically, to each city centre within 6 tiles of the IZ. So a single IZ can give up to +7 production to multiple cities eventually. This range can be extended by Toronto's Suzerain bonus (extends all IZ ranges another +3 tiles) and there's a great Engineer (don't remember the name) that gives a specific IZ a bonus +3 range (and a production boost, I think). Japan's Electronic Factory extends further as well.

True, but the Wheat/Floodplain farms should already give him plenty of food for the game. And if he really needs another farm triangle, he could put farms on the two tiles west of that potential IZ spot, and the spot below those. Also, the spot I picked will also let you build the Ruhr Valley wonder (needs to be adjacent to both a river and an IZ with a Factory).

Districts can't but some buildings can, for example a Zoo will give its amenities to all cities within 6 tiles of it.

I feel like the ideal situation is to create little circles of 4-5 cities that all throw their Industrial districts into the center of the circle. I just played a game where I totally 100% ignored the terrain or resources just to create the circles, and once the factories and zoos kicked in it became silly. Well, I was also Japan for the Electronics factory, but I think it might be worth it anyway?

It only applies to the IZ and the Entertainment Districts, I believe. More specifically, it applies to the last two buildings in each, where the bonus that building gives applies to each city centre within 6 tiles.

Check the tooltip of the buildings inside the districts closely when you're building them, it's one of the reasons that I don't subscribe to the "build wide" mantra, because you can stack a ton of amenity and production bonuses together with good district placement. There are also wonders and great people that increase the effect by three more tiles.

It doesn't affect the IZ in any way whatsoever. The IZ just happens to have a building in it with a wide ranged effect.

Also, stop worrying so much about appeal. It's seriously irrelevant.

No, that only applies to the tiles adjacent to the IZ itself. The appeal negative comes from the IZ, the production bonus is actually linked to the buildings.

The relic system is so dumb. You should have a small chance of getting one when you defeat someone in religious combat, not just when an apostle with Martyr dies. In any religious victory you're never going to have your apostles die because the area effect is so huge, you're going to micromanage them to get them low on health while killing opposing units then use their last spread to get rid of them. This means that if you're going for a culture victory the best path to win is to build a bunch of apostles with Martyr and run around hoping you can find some units to attack until they die, which is really counter-intuitive.

Only districts have negative affects, and as such they only extend as far as the district does. The buildings don't have negative affects.

Just so you know, you can heal Apostles and other religious units by having them wait on top of a Holy Site. Just another totally undocumented feature.

I've never had a game go past early Industrial yet today, but it seemed to be "whatever the city will bear" for housing and "whatever your civilization will bear" for amenities. If you're short on amenities it may be worth it to limit a city's growth so you can concentrate it elsewhere, but it also doesn't look like you can control this system, so not sure how much marginal benefit you're getting. Otherwise I think it's just keep growing growing growing no universal happiness means you're constrained by fresh water early game and neighborhoods late game.

It's clear that Civ VI is trying not to go for "sense of majesty" as much as "playful" in its quotes. The problem is that they got a voice actor not known for any sort of comic delivery to deliver a bunch of jokes that work better written than spoken. Plus, they don't go all the way with their lighthearted tone. Joke quotes over painstakingly animated pornography of wonders being built doesn't fit. The intro cinematic is the traditional paean to civilization from the West's point of view. Even the non-western locations are seen from the perspective of western explorers. The theme song is peppier than most previous ones and probably second best in the series, but it's also an "epic" piece of music. With all of this, why try to go for sardonic "snarky" quotes about the tech choices?

That being said, there's a lot of elegance to the design of this game. I love that neighborhoods and aqueducts broaden your choices for city location over the course of the game without artificially imposing era limits. A lot of the underlying mechanisms hum along in order to make the natural drive of civ (as a conquest game) work in all victory formats. There's a lot of balancing work to be done, especially in fixing exploits, but I'd say it's actually a much better working game in terms of underlying mechanics than civ V ever was.

Yeah, this is the feeling I get from a lot of the game: rushed. It feels like if they waited another couple of months to iron some stuff out, this game would easily be 10/10 material. As it stands there are some things that still need work (just look at my last complaint :v: ), but otherwise it's quite solid.

I'm feeling that this is one of the strongest vanilla Civ releases. Most people seem relatively bug-free, the biggest gripes are largely UI issues that should be able to be fixed, the games base features seem to work well. Don't get me wrong, I have some quibbles about certain systems and balances and the AI behavior, but hopefully those can either be patched or modded. All in all, I think the future is bright for Civ VI, since the base game is solid.

I'd put Rome in Tier 2 as well. Free monuments in the early game means that you can focus on defense and Campuses/Holy Sites and your culture game is fine for a while. Free roads for your cities lets you either delay your traders or send them elsewhere. Legions are nice and strong, and upgrade from your early Warriors.
