I didn't notice until now but it looks like Tomb Raider is on sale for $7. If I have no interest in Uncharted or other 'watch cutscene, hit button for QTE to continue cutscene' style games, but DO like sneaking around slowly and methodically eliminating every guard in a base ala MGSV, would I like this game? The trailer made it seem like it was all about that but I know how misleading that can be.

Yeah, there's some sneaking around and picking people off with a bow and arrow, but there's also plenty of charging in with a grenade launcher while Lara yells taunts at bad guys.

I know some people really don't like Uncharted but characterizing it as a game made up of nothing but QTEs and cutscenes is...weird.

Yeah, especially 3 and 4 which have some of the best mashup of stealth/platforming/melee+gunning in all of gaming. Very few games out there competently combine so many genres or gameplay styles better than UC.

wasn't Tomb Raider still one of the "once one mook notices you, everyone in the area will know where you are forever" kind of games?

And once way back in the day GameStop had some demo where it was just the guy running from a car or something and and you press X or whatever to do the cool cinematic dodge roll and it was basically a five minute QTE so

The trailer made it seem like it was all about that but I know how misleading that can be. The TR reboot is great and it's gorgeous on PS4 to boot. There's a couple of QTE things but they're brief enough to stay out of the way for most of the game. It's not as setpiece heavy as Uncharted, but you do have some occasional crazy "everything is falling don't stop running and jumping" platforming bits. Wolfsheim posted:To be fair I've never played an Uncharted game but fans I've talked to in real life always say "it's just like a movie!" and they say it like it's a good thing? There's no way it could be as lovely as the game you think it is. That truck segment is closer to running from a boulder in Crash Bandicoot than it is a QTE.

you shoot the grill of the truck to stop it. its not much of a qte

are there any true QTE segments in Uncharted aside from like the boss fight in 3 and maybe some in the first one? it's been a while since I've played the PS3 ones

probably. not ones that really stand out in my mind the way they do in TR or like RE4 or whatever. i mean there are lots of tap square to move a thing type parts i guess.

I'm really not giving this analogy any credit by saying this, but it's kinda Indiana Jones (The Video Game) shot like Star Wars. There are a small handful of QTEs and on-rails segments, but they make up around 5-10% of each game at best.

When they say that Uncharted is like a movie, I mean in the sense that the cutscenes are well-paced, the acting is solid, and it's just overall excellently presented. Like, the story is legitimately entertaining to watch unfold, in a way that most games just plain don't pull off. It doesn't feel like you're watching some shoddy high school production level bullshit written by a group of nerds who don't understand storytelling. It legit feels like a fun summer action movie.

I still haven't finished Uncharted 3 because I started reading books about John Dee and Francis Drake, because it was driving me nuts not knowing what was real and what was made up for the game.

Uncharted 4 has like 2 QTE bits in the entire game. Which just comes off as weird since they only happen those couple of times.

Things like the writing quality, art design, voice acting - stuff that until recently a lot of games just completely dropped the ball on. Uncharted 4 feels like they took the budget of a hollywood blockbuster and spent it on a game. THE AWESOME GHOST fucked around with this message at 13:46 on Oct 25, 2016 |

The Uncharted series creates is closer to a cinematic experience full of crazy big-budget action movie moments than any other game, but those also means it values that cinematic experience above all else, including gameplay. So it creates a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing.

I love the UC games but the "puzzles" are painful on repeat playthroughs. They are extremely easy but even if you know how to solve them they still take long to solve because of animations, small vignettes after beating a subpuzzle, etc. Still, I've never understood the complaints about the game being more of a movie than a game. What makes it less of a game than other action titles like Gears of War, Max Payne or Halo? Renoistic fucked around with this message at 16:54 on Oct 25, 2016 |

extremely hype for this sale on the Resident Evil games, especially since the ps4 version of RE4 wasnt on sale in the recent capcom sale. its weird that the bundle has no additional sale / there is actually no reason to buy it instead of the individual games.

Wait, do they sell adult movies on PSN or something? It seems weird that they'd have a tag for that despite presumably not ever wanting a game that could be labeled Adult. For weird Themes, I guess?

Quantum of Phallus posted:Most of the puzzles in UC4 in particular are insufferable Yeah, UC3 had the best balance for puzzles, almost a bit too gamey. But they were interesting on the first run and easy to blaze through on the second.
