I wouldn't have my fingers anywhere near that. I get what they're trying to show with the test but still.

Making a request here: I'm doing an assignment for my design class involving three panels that display different energy levels and I'm going to show the Trinity test stand/tower in panel one and the Ivy Mike mushroom cloud for panel three. For panel two I want to have a collage of pictures of atomic/nuclear weapons being released or launched (artillery cannon firing from Upshot Knothole Grable and the F-89 firing the AIR-2 Genie during Plumbbob). I can find a couple good images on GIS, but I was hoping some of you might have a better resource I could use. Basically, can I have pictures of nukes being launched, dropped, fired, whatever?

Basically the water trapped in the barrel doesn't compress soooooo kabloom, catastrophic failure, with the receiver exploding, losing the forward assist and magazine ejection. A KPV HMG in 14.5x114 with some API loaded should be able to pen that armor, right? Just shower the thing with it and it should stop. They should make a tower defense game out of this.

Probably, though that means actually hitting the drat thing. Though I'd also imagine that since the drivers are suicidal, anything that doesn't destroy the engine/tires to force the vehicle to stop or outright kill or knock out the driver won't be totally effective at stopping their progress.

The plating looks to be at least 20mm thick at the front, at a 45 degree angle, if the steel is decent that would be pretty hard for 14.5mm given that the max pen is around 40mm. Best solution would be something like the 30mm on a BMP-2, that has enough pen to be comfortable, enough mass to have a decent impact and should be easy enough to hit with. This thing is a surprisingly well constructed vehicle given that it's expendable, even if it must be permanently resting on the bumpstops given the weight of armor plate heaped onto it.

I'd imagine they're torching panels off every tank that's been fielded against them after blowing them the hell up.

It seems like ISIS is just deploying individual VBIEDs that often get blown up by a competent force before they ever reach their target. Have they ever just deployed a wave of a dozen or so bomb trucks at once, or is that assuming too much competence on their part?

VikingSkull posted:why do you think they send them in one by one? So about the suicide VBIED tactics, I know ISIS would deploy them in waves. During Ramadi they'd reduce Iraqi positions to dust by hitting them with Oklahoma City-sized truck bombs over and over again. Imagine heavy suppression fire hitting you and then seven Timothy McVeighs, one after another, driving full-blast into your position in armored bomb trucks. It's also why in these videos coming from around Mosul, you can see the peshmerga and the Iraqi troops holding it down waaaay the hell out in the fields behind their armor, while surrounding the villages and pummeling them. They're trying to provoke the suicide car bombers into rushing out in the open where they'll be easier pickings. BrutalistMcDonalds fucked around with this message at 21:32 on Oct 27, 2016 |
