As a brass player, I don't know how woodwinds handle mistakes honestly. The high-pitched squeak when a woodwind makes a mistake makes me wince with second-hand shame, and I think if I had been a woodwind player I would have had anxiety nightmares about squeaking and getting yelled at by the director.

I once had one die on me right when it was my turn to play a competition solo in front of the rest of the band - I took a breath, started to play, and squeaked on the first 3 consecutive notes of my solo and had to stop and change reeds right there.

Episode was really really good. Wasn't expecting them to seemingly resolve the whole Nozomi/Mizore arc today, but they did it really well. The big talk was really intense. Although, I'm not sure why they'd ask Kumiko in particular to chase Mizore down after she freaked out - it's not like she knows her all that well. It's clearly intentional so this isn't a gripe against the show, but man Asuka is so loving evasive and cynical all the drat time, it drives me crazy. The portrayal of Asuka has definitely gotten more interesting, and makes me think it might be something that actually comes to a head rather than just serving as a vehicle for Kumiko/the audience to get frustrated at during times of conflict.

its gayday! i think the reason im enjoying yuriphonium and yaoi on ice so much this season is that the characters no longer need to prove themselves as capable, they only need one last step to push themselves towards greatness, and in doing so learn mindfulness towards others

It's a good thing Reina was distracted enough to not be aware of the senpai drama or she probably would have choked slammed all parties involved for distracting from the music and WINNING Hope some focus comes back on Sapphire and Hazuki. They've basically not been in the past couple of episodes.

Finally watched (04), and I just gotta say the oboe player they had playing the solos did a tremendous job differentiating between the flat robotic but technically accurate version and the final version.

I really like what they've done with Asuka over the course of the show. One thing I really appreciated about the latest episode was how satisfying it feels for everyone to finally just get all their problems out in the open and talk about it. So many other shows drag stuff like this out much longer. But yeah, I'm hoping

Episodes like today's are the reason I love this show. This performance is the cathartic payoff for us, the audience, after the drama preceding it, and also for the band members after all of their hard work. It's beautiful.
