Can anyone recommend some vidoes of a playthough/demo game of Dropfleetcommander? My quick search on youtube just gave me various very specific videos of game mechanics. I'm pondering selling my BFG Tau fleet to finance DFC :)

as an offering, have this travesty

If you're serious about selling your Tau fleet, drop me a line. I'm maintaining a BFG collection both for nostalgia's sake, and possibly as proxies for DFC; and I don't actually have any Tau.

I saw this on facebook earlier, did not notice the bikini at first. It went from being amusing to meh pretty quick there.

But yeah, the BoW is a good showcase I think. Not that I have played yet myself, obviously.

THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!
My PHR starters showed up today and I already have 6 frigates assembled. These models are very well designed and go together really quickly.

I am thinking:
6 Europas (guns)
4 Medeas (strike carrier)
4 Pandoras (burn thru)
4 Andromedas (escort carrier)
2 Calypsos (ecm)

Do you guys think that's a good allocation?

Tomorrow, doom!
But now, tea.
I'm hearing that all the gun frigates are considered kinda mediocre just now. Not bad, just...points that could be spent on something better. The same people are also saying that PHR gun frigates are the worst of the bunch.

That doesn't match my experience in game so far, where Toulons have been excellent at finishing off damaged cruisers and counterattacking Scourge frigate waves. But our local scene has only just gotten the game and people are still learning about the atmosphere layers etc.

I think most of it comes from a single guy who was down on PHR guns since the beta games. Since he was a source of reviews / videos day one it would have stuck around. The broadsides have a hard time critting, but that's ignoring the fact that the PHR have significantly tougher ships.

Frigate Wolfpacks have been really handy for me so far. 4x Toulons are great at mopping up cruisers or going for an early frigate group kill.

20 frigates assembled!

Now on to 15 cruisers!
2 Theseus
2 Orion
2 Ikarus
2 Hector
2 Achilles
1 Orpheus
2 Ganymede
2 Bellerophon

Any glaring mistakes here? Not building any Ajax or Perseus, but I might be able to snag a cruiser sprue or two from my kickstarter friends.

I just dabbed a small amount of glue on each section. Use a brass rod to spread it near the edges on the front and just carefully align it with a finger and thumb. Make sure it's filed flat on top otherwise it'll till and it'll be like .5mm off half way down. Should be fine after that. I just used a thumb to make sure it was pressed flat while my other hand kept the alignment straight.

Battleships got delayed to ??? because they need to finish shipping the kickstarter first before the guys making them can get back to that. I heard someone say they got pushed to the 11th of November, but that seems unrealistic (although all of hawks time frames have been lately so who knows?). I would be surprised if they actually have everything packed by the end of the month like they thought they would, and even then I doubt 11 days would be enough to make all the battleships, pack them, and ship them to distribution in time for them to retail on the 11th. So probably end of the month, early next month depending on how long the kick starter takes to ship. The facebook has been a lot less complainy the last week or so, but there is a thread of like 40 people who have gotten nothing yet. Kickstarter is still really complainy.

I think Hawk are finally getting there but there is still a lot to do. The refresh button on my email is wearing out and I don't have a shipping notification yet. :(

I would be surprised if battleships hit retail in November to be honest. They might have some for shows if production had started before they pulled the staff off to pack boxes I guess?

The top part of the UCM don't look bad to me. The trick is that they don't sit on right away; affix the front of the top and then kind of roll it backwards on a table upside down to get it set. Didn't have any problems that way.
It helps to gouge the gently caress out of where it was connected to the sprue as well on the top area to make sure the sides are flush.

Played the first post-kickstarter game with some new people at the club! Noticed that they fixed up bombing from the beta... it is much cleaner now (before you had to roll to hit, roll armor saves, roll to see if the ground units were injured, and finally roll there armor saves) with the bold part taken out. So the Medea on the PHR side isn't completely garbage, but I still rate it as the worse Strike Carrier in the game. The cheat sheets are nice, but rulebook index isn't great. Oh well!

If you were above a cluster for the full 6 turns (which you won't be) the Medea could sit there and maybe take out the weakest sector. It's basically the weakest bomber in the game.
I mean, PHR frigates are basically the toughest in the game, and the Medea does have a singularity of purpose actually going for it, but without a way of taking pot shots at other ships they don't have the number of turns needed to turn their slight advantage in the ground war into a meaningful victory (victory points).

Strike carriers are frigate troop transports, right? I guess you will still want some in the fleet to land troops even if they are worst on class?

Had my first game last night, 1500 points of take and extract, where i played UCM versus PHR. If you look in the top left corner, you can see my dead pile, and my opponents dead pile in the top right corner. I've learned that i have to be way more sneaky around PHR!

And yes, i lost :(

I did a Halloween themed demo day yesterday. I had some fund adding pumpkin patches, crypts and decorations to the table and i basically used Recon as a Trick or Treat mission with actual candy. On a roll of 1 instead of a bomb, i ate the candy and ghosts using the Dagger rules from Phase 2 appeared. It was pretty well received and i had a good time overall.

Generally, though I wouldn't take more than 1-2.
I've never played around with the larger troopships yet. You might be able to get away with 2 of them in a 1500 point game and skip the frigates. I just dunno.

Flipswitch

Strike Carriers (Frigates) launch Dropships which land 1x Armour or 1x Infantry Asset. Troop Transports (Cruisers) launch Bulk Landers which land 3x Infantry or 1x Defense Battery Asset. Generally speaking we've been taking 3-4x Strike Carriers & 1x Troopship at 1k. I can easily see adding a second Troopship at 1.5k. These win you games, you need to take them.

I wouldn't dismiss Strike Carriers, armour is what you want to use to win the ground battles against infantry.

I wonder if the improvements to Battlescribe 2.0 will allow Dropzone/Dropfleet style list building to work.

Didn't even notice that bulk landers can't drop armour. Hmm. I still think its the worse one though!
EDIT: PHR have arguably the best Corvettes, so that might be an option to hunt down strike carriers over taking extra medea as well. We will just have to see how that all shakes down!

Also the Medea has the most confusing rule in the game. The gun has "bombardment" which lets you ignore penalties for shooting through orbital layers. It also has the "low level" rule that lets it shoot with no penalties from atmosphere. When looking up what "through" means it includes both shooting into and shooting out of a level. So the low level rules does nothing.

Unless I'm mistaken somewhere which could very well be the case.

Well, that is even sillier because one of the Scourge frigates has bombs, yet doesn't have this rule. Yet bombs let you shoot through atmo! Eh.
Granted, that and the index not being great are my only main problem with the rules.
