My mom is now convinced the postman has stolen her early ballot to vote for Hillary. Or a neighbor has it and is going to vote for Hillary. Gee Mom, who were you going to vote for? When I reminded her about the contractors Trump never paid, which was what she was really pissed at, she snapped back that she read there are dozens of Secret Service books written from ex members who detailed how much of a bitch and a oval office she was to them. It's like she is so afraid to say she would vote for Trump just because that Hillary is a crook and a liar! Those people died in Ben Ghaza because of her! And she lies all the time! .....Mom, have you ever actually listened to any of the loving debates or anything Trump has said? Of course not. I bet she suspected privately that I took her ballot and left the rest of the mail, and right now her ballot is hiding in my room where I will vote for Hillary and forge her name on it.

My mom is firmly in the Hillary camp and my stepdad is a Trump man, spreading duck memes on Facebook. My mom's complaint is that he just goes along with what his brothers and other people tell him, and doesn't really think things through for himself. This extends to other things as well, which is why she never enjoys watching more cerebral shows with him, because he gets lost easily and keeps having to ask her to explain what's going on. Too bad he doesn't understand when my mom tries to explain why Trump would be a horrible president, and is in general, a horrible person. So, my mom is going to effectively cancel out my stepdad's vote, which is awesome. Mystic Mongol posted:Serious talk here... are you shying away from R**ist or R********? I don't want to give the impression I'm 'above the fray' in any way, but I'm frequently baffled by stuff like: Yes. We absolutely should fund trade-school in the same way. These training and work programs are every bit as important as university proper, and I say this as someone who is working on a PhD. I have this radical notion that all jobs in society are absolutely necessary. From the ditch digger to the CEO, from the cashier at McDonald's to the President, from the salesperson at JC Penny's to brain surgeon; all jobs are necessary to keep the social order running smoothly. And I think persons should be reasonably compensated for the jobs they perform. Perhaps the most striking statistic I've seen on the matter is the ratio of line worker pay to CEO pay. During the 60s, the rate was around 1:20. For every dollar the line worker made, the CEO could expect to make 20. That's reasonable, and maybe even a bit low if you consider the risk/investment and amount of work that goes into some jobs. But that ratio has grown more extreme- around 1:300. That means CEOs often make more in one day than their line workers could hope to make in a year- and that's just from wages, exempting bonuses and stock options. Now I don't know about anyone else, but that seems a bit extreme to me. I can't imagine looking at two workers and being able to objectively say, 'Yes, this guy works literally 300 times as hard as the other guy, and deserves the wage'. I absolutely think people should be rewarded for their risk and investment and hard work; but our conception of both what 'hard work' is, and the degree to which it should be compensated, is completely insane.

That's not the way wages work. It's about how much you can make for the company, and how rare your skills are, not how hard you work. Most low level jobs are way harder work than high level jobs. A nursing assistant who has a backbreaking job lifting and cleaning helpless and heavy patients works way harder than the coder who spends all day doing fun work in a comfy chair with coffee, but the latter earns lots more. CEOs are just a magnification of the above. Their job is seriously fun. It's high pressure, but in a fun way.

If it's money you really want then you have to look at the market before starting (at something like age 15) Otherwise I don't see why someone who spent a decade in say... art school should be entitled to more money than say... an electrician who has 3 years of crafts school and then a started a paid apprenticeship.
