Didn't I kill him with a HELICOPTER?
It's a minor thing, but I really like how the first totem pokemon you fight is a bulky-ish normal type that's getting a boost to its special defense. No matter which starter you pick, you'll be in a disadvantage even without type resistance coming into play so you're highly encouraged to get a fighting type since they'd be super effective and use physical ttacks.

Don't get it twisted who your enemies are.
I was actually on a bit of a streak with grass starters, I really liked Serperior and Chesnaught. If Litten and its evos weren't The Best I'd probably got for a grass starter hat trick because dang I like robin hoot too. Gens 1-4 I typically defaulted to fire but on multiple playthroughs I'd mess around with Squirtle, Totodile, Treecko, and Piplup, but there's not exactly a shortage of grass and water type pokemon in any given region so it didn't actually stick until gen 5 when I was sick of fire/fighting and thought Tepig was kinda lame.

Tikis having terrain as a gimmick is alright enough, but I had to remind myself what they did and they're meh:

Electric means no grounded pokemon can fall asleep which could be kinda useful in singles maybe.

Grass gives everything leftovers basically. Maybe Bull Tiki could be some kind of super stall, that gets destroyed by Poison.

Misty prevents all status conditions which is funny cause it's a straight upgrade from Electric, unless you want to status the opponent.

We've already seen Surge Surfer on Alolan Raichu, I would be really surprised if there aren't a bunch more terrain using abilities introduced.

this is confusing to me also

It's either like Smelling Salts (does more damage if they're burned), or it's a strategic kind of move.

Let's say your opponent has Guts Conkeldurr with a Flame Orb. You knock off the Flame Orb, but he's still burned and running a train on your team. Sparkling Aria gets rid of his burn and now he has to either be Toxic'd (giving him a serious timer), or Paralyzed (halving his speed) to have any hope of a Guts boost that won't be wiped away.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of, to mess up Guts users that burn themselves with Flame Orb/Will O Wisp.

Yeah but Ghost type distribution is not great, and if it's against a special wall it's not so tough.

Unless it's Gengar. Then you pray.

Look at how much stuff learns Shadow Ball. Ghost move distribution is fine. Ghost really does not need a buff again after the buff it got last gen where steel does not resist it anymore. The poster that said that a bug weakness for fairy would probably be the best way to balance it, if they are adjusting the type chart at all.

My disdain for you all knows no bounds.
Both Ghost and Fairies don't need buffs. Fairies honestly could stand to be knocked down a peg. It's one of the best defensive typings, and it's offenses are a bit too good for a defensive type.
