I mean it's dumb to be all 'my god why, WHY has Taylor Swift not waded in? Truly she is failing to do her duty to America...' but yea it's not fuckin crazy to say 'maybe celebrities who have more direct access to their fans then ever before could be very influential in politics when they typically already have causes and all that fall under the political sphere to begin with'.

people follow celebrities and their lives so that they can escape from the problems of society and their own lives. a great many americans don't give a poo poo about whether their favorite celebrity is on their side on a given political issue, so taylor swift actually has a lot to lose by doing this

thinkpiece media takes karl rove's strategy of making everything political and runs with it farther than he ever did. that's why you can't have news about celebrities, sports, and tv shows (three things people use as escapism) anymore without some self-important prick shoehorning social issues into it. most people don't give a gently caress that aroldis chapman is in the world series a year after shooting around his wife- indeed, they're watching it to forget about that sort of poo poo. but you'll never hear the end of it from sites like deadspin

Zootopia is extremely blatantly about racism and how it's bad don't do it so this is a reasonable thing to say imo

oh and happy endings are bad because it presents the passive acceptance of capitalism's existence as a return to normalcy that compels the viewer into politcal complacency or some fart huffing poo poo

counting "movie failed to end in the total socialist overthrow of everything at once" as a strike against its quality with a totally straight face

Um, everything is political lol. Yeah, it's so weird to make political commentary on sports when the most visible BLM supporter is a loving NFL quarterback and the guy who led the Cavs to the championship shows up to games with an "I Can't Breathe" shirt on.

Just lol at all of this.

when i watch football, hockey, soccer etc. i don't stop and think about the sociopolitical implications of things, because i want to take a break from doing that. and i'm sure most people who listen to 1989 don't also think, "what does taylor swift think about the injustices of american society?"

it would be one thing if these perpetually mad thinkpiece writers had anything new or insightful to say but it's the same poo poo every article and it gets boring
