I would think that if the Clinton campaign had any oppo to drop that they've been holding in reserve, now would be the time. So, I guess they have nothing.

Which is amazing to me. The only thing the campaign has dropped is the Alicia Machado thing in the first debate, the rest of Trump’s scandals have come from outside aources. How could the Clinton campaign have dug up so little on him?

Monday might be optimal, if they have a specific thing. Weekend news cycle is a little tricky.

That said I doubt they've got anything. Smart strategy now is focusing on GOTV and fighting any suppression.

Hillary waiting on oppo dump is the smart move. Dropping anything now would make her look worse to most people and more guilty. Remember when pussgate dropped and how wikileaks was ignored when they started dropping emails again for the exact same reason. Anything released now will be ignored and viewed as trying to hide something.

So basically the FBI found an aide's stray .pst file on a computer during a different investigation, then someone said 'we should kick this up to the boss before we look at it' then after telling him instead of him saying 'okay run a difference check and see if there's anything new' he freaked out about testifying under oath and tried to cover his own rear end by squealing to Congress? That seems about the right brand of stupid for this election.

I went to college with Mike Tracey and am still friends with him on Facebook. I didn't realize he was actually getting much traction. He also freelances for The American Conservative.

He just got into an argument today on Facebook where people were calling him out for claiming that the FBI "reopened" the case when they had not. He got into a "it depends on what the definition of reopen is" argument and someone called him Bill Clinton and he flipped out.

He was much less high strung 10 years ago and a Dennis Kucinich superfan.

Comey might not be done, but his goose is cooked on this one.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/29/u...v=top-news&_r=0

quote:

The reaction was swift and damning, with Mrs. Clinton’s supporters and even some Republicans blasting Mr. Comey. Indeed, Mr. Comey, who was attacked this summer by Democrats and Republicans for both his decision not to bring charges against Mrs. Clinton and for the way he handled it, found himself in an even stronger crossfire on Friday.

By late Friday, Mr. Comey felt it necessary to further explain his actions in an email to F.B.I. employees in which he acknowledged that “there is significant risk of being misunderstood.” He explained that he was trying to balance the obligation he felt to tell Congress that the investigation he had said was completed was continuing, with not knowing yet “the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails.”

Across Pennsylvania Avenue from the F.B.I., Justice Department officials were said to be deeply upset about Mr. Comey’s decision to go to Congress with the new information before it had been adequately investigated.

That decision, said several officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, appeared to contradict longstanding Justice Department guidelines discouraging any actions close to an election that could influence the outcome.

One official complained that no one at the F.B.I. or the Justice Department is even certain yet whether any of the emails included national security material or was relevant to the investigation into whether Mrs. Clinton had mishandled classified material in her use of a private email server.

“The F.B.I. has a history of extreme caution near Election Day so as not to influence the results,” Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, said in a statement. “Today’s break from that tradition is appalling.”

“Was this information Congress needed to know urgently? Of course not,” said Matthew Miller, a Clinton supporter who was the chief spokesman at the Justice Department under former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.

Some Republicans praised Mr. Comey on Friday for his integrity and independence in coming forward with the new information. But praise was largely drowned out by criticism, with even some of Mrs. Clinton’s biggest opponents upset at Mr. Comey’s sudden re-emergence in what they said was a bungled case.

“This is as bad for Comey as it is for Hillary,” said Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, a conservative advocacy group that has successfully sued for access to thousands of Mrs. Clinton’s private emails.

Mr. Fitton said the cryptic nature of Mr. Comey’s letter to Congress begged for an explanation of what new material the F.B.I. had found, whether it involved national security material relevant to the initial investigation, and why it was not found earlier.

“This letter raises all sorts of questions that Comey and the F.B.I. should have to answer,” Mr. Fitton said. “They can’t roll this out in the middle of a presidential campaign and just leave it at that.”

So it's more or less a botched hit job by a loving idiot.

The Right Wing Attack Squad quickly dropped the story with claims that it was actually a double bluff feint to take the heat off Wikileaks. The Press has turned to openly wondering what in the flying gently caress Comey was thinking while acknowledging there's not really anything there at the moment. The Congressional Usual Suspects have pretty much all agreed to quietly let this thing die without any hearings or any more fanfare.

The story is moving from Goddamn Clinton Emails to Goddamn Idiot FBI, which undercuts Trump's victory lap and undercuts the FBI's investigation retroactively. Plus people who are actually going to vote have either already voted or are beyond tired of emails bullshit.

Comey contradicts himself pretty badly by simultaneously saying 'well, I needed to send this letter ASAP so it wouldn't get leaked once I found out about this' and then 'but somehow I already know this is relevant to the case' when it's becoming very clear that it's not.

It's gonna be hella awkward if Comey comes back n Monday, having received a court order, and goes, "Oops, guys, my bad."

Feeds into the Republican narrative that the FBI is avoiding real charges and Democratic anger that the FBI wandered into an election without any justification.

Comey is not known for carrying about policymaker needs, but it's still a bad miscalculation on his part if they find zero new emails.
