I think that show needs to gently caress off before they kill someone. After filming that horrid chick from edmonton driving like an absolute nutcase, they should have said she was off the show, and they would be submitting all their video to the police. Instead they handed her the keys to another vehicle so they could film more of the kind of poo poo that gets people killed, and you know they all play it up for the camera, but they're doing it on public roads.

Looks like I'm going to be new car shopping this weekend as well, not for me though the folks.

In-laws had decided on a Honda for their new car. They've only had Honda since 1984 when they bought their first Accord. Their best friend was the owner/manager of the local franchise but she passed away unexpectedly last year so they were always treated well. They still want a Honda though and went to the dealer. Test drove a loaded to the tits Fit and started to deal on it. Long story short, it sounds like the new manager was trying to gently caress them around to the point of the in-laws feeling ripped off so they walked. So they're now asking me to go to dealers with them for car shopping today because they have no clue what to look at other than a Honda. :sigh:

I literally have no idea what the best "go-to" cars i the compact-sub compact classes are. Probably drop by Subaru and look at the Impreza and maybe Toyota but I hate not going to dealers without a specific plan of what to look for after days of research.

Well, they have turned video over to the cops in at least two cases (one a habitual drunk driver from Calgary, and one terrible driver who kept driving despite having unstable angina). And the show does have a much greater emphasis on education than other countries' Worst Driver versions.

But yes. This year's fat girl from Edmonton is a terrible driver and worse human being who should not be allowed on public roads, or possibly to continue living.

Yeah, but if the drunk driver showed up for filming drunk, they wouldn't hand them the keys to a car and send them out on public roads. A dumbass who does twice the speed limit while staring at a phone? GET THE CAMERA JIMMY THIS GON' BE AWESOME.

If the crew is too scared to get into the vehicle to film it, maybe they shouldn't put her in a vehicle and send her out onto public roads so you can do the scary voiceover about what happens to her legally if she kills somebody over video of her passing on the shoulder and running stop signs at full speed.

As good as their intentions may be, they basically attempted to film an innocent bystander being killed for shock value when they had the tools to prevent that woman from driving, possibly ever again. Losing her license would be a better education than drifting a camaro through styrofoam blocks.

No for real though. My 2012 accent has been absolutely brilliant, no problems whatsoever for over 105000km now. Suspension is great, seats are supportive and comfy, the dash is nicely laid out and well built, brakes are fantastic, and the fuel economy is loving phenomenal. I can do 600+ km on a 35-38L tank if I'm not driving like a total dong (almost never).

I've never driven the automatic though, so I can't really comment on that. The six speed is so easy to drive and the clutch is light as a feather.

If they want a great compact car at a great price, look at an accent. I mean you know how fat I am, and I fit in it no problem at all.

The elantras have an issue with the block casting that causes piston slap and warranty replaces it with new engine with the same casting defect. My friend at hyundai says they have a tech that has the whole procedure down to 6 hours and he usually does 3 or 4 a week.

A co-workers's sister has an Elantra and bizarrely it keeps dumping fuel into the crankcase. It's a year old at this point, been in the shop for, no exaggeration, 6 months and they still can't fix it. Anecdotal I know, but between that and my old co-workers brand new Santa Fe needing a new long block within 30 days of delivery, I don't get the warm fuzzies with Hyundai.

THAT SAID, the shopping trip yesterday was an exercise in frustration. I think they have their mind set on a Honda Fit and were hoping just to have me confirm their choice. They are a very nice car for what they are, but I'll tell you guys, the little Chevy Spark surprised me with value and they are also made in Korea.

The infotainment display screen is absolutely trick and you can cast your phone screen to it so you literally have the NAV on your phone, including controls, maps, everything on it. Makes a factory NAV unit completely obsolete. They only had the base models in stock but if I was in the market for a little shitbox, it would be on my short list.

That said, the Honda dealer is being dinks, not budging at all from full MSRP and want top dollar on every loving thing. $200 for floormats, $200 for a loving block heater which they don't even need, $750 for an admin fee, $100 for locking lugs, you name it. This is for a couple that has been buying cars there since 1983.

I told them if they insist on a Fit, to wait until the 2017s are in which will be literally any day now and maybe go to Calgary to buy it. The MSRP is virtually identical and it won't be a year old before they even buy it. Also, Honda moved Fit production back to Japan reportedly due to quality problems from their Mexican plant.

F1DriverQuidenBerg
Jan 19, 2014

I'm not crazy about Hyundai but the new models I saw at the car show this year were fairly impressive and the build quality seems to have taken a big step forward, they're better than modern Audi at leasr. I'd still be concerned about reliability issues but atleast they aren't raiding fifteen year old parts bins from other manufacturers to cobble together cars anymore.

Also I vaguely recall Honda having one model that they were randomly dropping in Chinese made models and thought it was the Fit.

There was a short run of early GE (09+) Fits built in China.

Not sure what the QC complaints were but I do remember there were some problems with spot weld penetration in the front strut towers of some model (don't know if GD or GE). The GD definitely had clutch chatter and clutch slave issues as well as strange leaks from the hatch area.
