All masked henchmen are clones of Gwen. Every supervillain's got `em.

Amusingly, in one of the Secret Invasion Avengers comics Bendis wrote, Hank Pym was seduced and captured by a Skrull that was mimicking Gwen Stacy.

The page with Annie May asking for light-up shoes and billie and joey and the pancakes is so packed. I love it on the side that we're so used to decompressed storytelling nowadays that seeing a lot happen in a page is cool and also just how hectic and crammed the family life feels that's just so genuine. I'm loving this. Pureauthor posted:The Earnest Adventures of Spider-Dad gave me diabetes. I am dead. Yeah, the one sour note for me is MJ's outfit. She looks like the '60s mod version of Spider-Woman. Like, if Silver Age Kathy Kane had designed it, it would be that.

Spider-Man's costume was designed in the 60s. Maybe that's what they're going for.

It looks more like some late 1970s exploitation costume you'd see in El Indecente Hombre Arana Y El Provocativo Rojo Monada.

Spider-Dad seemed vaguely familiar for some reason and now I found out it's because the author does that sorta comics on his tumblr. Needless to say, it's also adorable.

So I finally got around to reading all of Venom: Space Knight. Considering I felt Bendis sort of killed the Venom concept when he did his big Klyntar retcon in Guardians of the Galaxy, I thought Space Knight was a decent amount of fun and made good lemonade out of it. But the one thing that irks the hell out of me is that when Venom returns to Earth and gets into the obligatory Spider-Man fight, Spider-Man casually mentions knowing that it's Flash. One of the big selling points of the whole Flash/Venom thing was the tension of what would happen if Peter and/or Flash found out who their friend secretly was and... welp.

I suppose the logic is that Flash worked with the Avengers enough that someone would probably have told Peter.

# ? Nov 13, 2016 17:05 |

Yeah but it's a moment that is big enough that the impact finding out about it has on Peter is a story that should be told. It's like if you had a comic where Batman has killed the Joker and no issue where it shows the reason why Batman made that decision. (This basically happened in Final Crisis. And that's one of the reasons why I hate that story so much.)

# ? Nov 13, 2016 17:44 |
That sort of thing is why I hate "I knew all along" bs like fake Aunt May on her death bed. Oh you're right, let's skip all the interesting dramatic catharsis that could come from this revelation and just say you 'somehow knew' even though you never once acted like you did.

Gavok posted:Huh. I'll fix that, then. Thanks. I keep referring back to that scene from Fargo (the TV show, not the film) with Patrick Wilson taking a piss beside Reagan (played by Bruce Campbell). It kind of summed up Reagan and Trump's whole approach, 'big picture' slogans that sound great, and very little thought into what they actually mean.
