As cool as that would be, I can't remember any instances of good implementation of swords in a first person game, especially an FPS.

Warhammer:Vermintide did melee weapons very well IMO.

Did Warframe ever become not-poo poo? I remember it being kinda neat, but without any staying power.

Also can't help but compare what I'm seeing in this LP to Painkiller, and the latter seems a lot more like the doom I remember: kiting hordes of enemies around frenetically. Does the enemy count ever go through the roof in newDoom? The core system looks competent, especially around movement, but the maps and enemy counts look so... constricted.

A little EQ, a touch of reverb, slap on some compression and there. That'll get your dickbutt jiggling.

The enemy count does go really drat high in the later levels, but the arenas never get as big as they do in Painkiller or, say, Serious Sam 3. Instead of circling around the enemies in a large arena you're forced to take advantage of non-flat environment.

Who did the soundtrack for this game, by the way? It seems like a nice middle ground between quake 2-style metal, quake 1 reznory industrial ambient, with a but of glitchy bassy electronic thrown in for good measure.

Mick Gordon, he's pretty good at it, he's done a few other soundtracks and they're generally quite boss. I think this is my favourite work of his, though.

Is there a setting on the game that keeps the body parts around instead of teleporting into the nether? I feel this might be more satisfying surveying your artwork after an encounter...

Also on the soundtrack - the same guy did Wolfenstein - which also is a fantastic soundtrack (and you can listen on Spotify). Doom one is now out in the UK as of 28th September!

No. I don't think there is a PC that would be able to render all the gibs if they were to remain :v:

The Demonic Audio Logs are one of the parts of the game I really loved. Also yes, the chaingun was kind of garbage, since in pretty much any case where you can use it, I found it better to use my bullets on heavy rifle microrockets instead. I think the issue is that it's the weapon that hands out its damage most over time as opposed to in one big spiky lump, making it less compatible with the running and jumping where you often only have a second or so to exploit to do damage. In that second, a rocket from the rocket launcher, the super shotgun, the railgun and probably even the plasma rifle can hand out more damage than the chaingun would have time for.

The chaingun would probably have more of a purpose if there were ranged enemies that didn't bother to close to melee range at all(most enemies try to get up close since that's where they're most dangerous, I think the Summoner is the only real exception), and enemy projectiles were interceptable. Then a constant stream of bullets to rake enemy fireballs and missiles out of the air would be more useful.

There's honestly no pattern. You'd think that between Brown Moses posting in D&D, the FYAD, and the goddamn TCC the forums would be the ones to attract someone's attention, but instead it was the front page. :iiam:
That said, the only blocks that I remember off the top of my head are Pornhub, SA frontpage, 4chan, and Lurkmore (the Russian meme wiki, imagine Encyclopedia Dramatica and Know Your Meme had a Russian-speaking child) so I might not be the most qualified person out there.

I'd like to take a second and point out that the Chaingun weighs 45 goddamned kg (99 lbs). Like, I know that Doomguy is wearing power armor, but it's still impressive that he can run and jump around while shooting that thing (also, I like the detail that we first find it mounted on a tripod). And, as we'll see later, it's going to get a shitload bigger with weapon mods.

Hopefully Alexey will pick the Mobile Turret upgrade for it: that alt-fire mod turns the chaingun from an assault rifle side-grade to one of the most powerful and satisfying guns in the entire game.

Oh man, I agree, chainguns with low rates of fire just feel so wrong. Please tell me the upgrade for it turns it into the quake 2 chaingun, i.e. fires so goddamn fast it's like a full auto shotgun and empties your entire stock of bullets in about 5 seconds of continuous fire.

The other figures are fun, too. That chamber pressure is about 4 times as high as the one produced by .50BMG cartridges. 5000 ft/s muzzle velocity is only ~60-70% higher than .50BMG, so those slugs must be somewhere around 2.5 times the mass of a .50BMG. Combiend with the velocity, it's about comparable to current-day 20mm autocannon shells in terms of kinetic energy.

One lets you spin up the barrels without having to fire them, the other splits it into a bunch of smaller gatling guns and fires twice as fast. Neither gets quite so fast as to empty in five seconds though.

Do you think this is funny?
I have no idea why they started intentionally foiling backtracking attempts. Alexy didn't show it off, but there's a gap between the platform where he realized he needed to go back and an earlier part of the level that you can absolutely double jump across, except that they went out of their way to put up an invisible wall on the other side so that any attempt to do that resulted in falling to your death. There's no reason for this. You can only make the jump one way due to the elevation. Just a baffling misstep in design from earlier levels.

(It took me so long to figure out that I could walk up the chains, before that I kept trying and failing to jump to the stairs in that same area with them.)

I didn't even know there were any backtracking foilers except possibly related to a couple of boss arenas to avoid you jumping back out.
