I'm sure that everyone will soon be falling over themselves to use this nonsensical and needlessly complicated typing system versus one with 26 letters that don't change depending on how hard you hit the key Note: Even in Asia all programming is done in English using the Alphabet

quote:Typing English on a QWERTY computer keyboard, he says, “is about the most basic rudimentary way you can use a keyboard.” You press the “a” key and “a” appears on your screen. “It doesn't make use of a computer’s processing power and memory and the cheapening thereof.” Type “a” on a QWERTY keyboard hooked up to a Chinese computer, on the other hand, and the computer is off anticipating the next characters. Typing in Chinese requires mediation from a layer of software that is obvious to the user. that's exactly why QWERTY needs to be replaced - it's just not complicated enough

Chinese may work on mobile things where you can write the character with your finger on a screen and the correct one will show up. Using a keyboard to write Chinese in China, HK, and Taiwan all have different systems that are so lovely. I've been professional Chinese secretaries take agonizingly long to type on keyboards and continually needing to delete, go back to the base radical and search for the right character.

It's called The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. The person who wrote it has an outro to it where she said she initially thought she was going to write a book about how western medicine had failed this immigrant family but by the end of it had to admit that the only functional years of the child's life were due to western medicine -- there's a quote where she's talking to a nurse about the problems western medicine has with intercultural understanding and communication and the nurse just flatly says to her "Western medicine saves lives." Here's a joke from the medical community. "What do you call alternative medicine that works? Medicine." The actual term for evidence based logical medicine is allopathic medicine. People who want body plumbing to be more than it is sometimes use that term like a curse word but the people who believe in it see it as a positive term. People on the allopathic side refer to fantasy or hope based medical practices most broadly as "woo."

today four people came from Skyish Air, I guess it is a company that checks the air quality of our office?, and they presented us with a really nice, framed award that said our air quality met these high standards set by some level of something. My coworker accepted the award. They then went to each and every room and took the air quality, and took pictures of themselves taking the air quality, after giving us the award. Now one of their employees is smoking next to our receptionist and talking about signing up for something from their company. the most China thing imaginable

When I used to teach and was doing a group project I would get them to type their names into the computer during class. If they did it in pinyin it would take about 5 minutes for 50 students, if they used characters it would take 30 minutes - 1 hour since they have to find the right character, realise that it isn't the correct character and that they can't spell their own name and repeat. I'd try to get them to use pinyin but if you have one kid use hanzi early on in the process everyone else will do it no matter how many times you tell them not to because that guy used characters so it means we should do it like that too.
