Possible you didnt have them in right. I've seen Sleep 2x (and plenty of other loud bands) and never had issues after the shows.

Just saw sleep, agreed with everyone else in the thread that has raved about em, their show was amazing. Cisneros came out rocking an epic beard and hair combo and some stoned out dude next to me exclaimed "he's like Jesus or something," and I'd have to agree.

They played dopesmoker out of order, playing the last part first and then they went right into the middle of the dopesmoker riff and guitar solo, it was awesome. Also I had ear plugs in but they did gently caress all, my ears are still ringing 2 hours later. so many drat amps.

That was a great loving show

Have now. It's loving excellent.

Sounds like they're competing to see who can hit their instruments the hardest, and everyone is somehow winning.

Also, exactly what I'd expect from someone on the internet calling themself "Weaponized Cum". Thanks!

New 11PARANOIAS album dropped and it is p. huge.

Also the LP comes with 3 coloured bits of plastic that change the album art depending on which you look through, so you have something to zone out on while you are listening.

3 album covers in one! I enjoy gimmicks like this a lot.

I haven't seen Sleep but HoF aren't notably louder than other metal bands.

I've not seen Sleep (yet) but High on Fire were not like "oh my god I'm going to die it's so loud". They sounded good, it was loud. Wear some ear plugs.

No.

e: sunn o))) was so loud and I was so tired after walking around downtown Raleigh back and forth between shows at hopscotch and the hotel to smoke weed that I'm pretty sure I passed out for 30 minutes due to exhaustion and sheer force of vibration filling a large auditorium. It was pretty amazing. I tried talking to my friend by putting my face maybe an inch from his ear and he still couldn't hear me.

Earth was louder than Sleep IMO. Don't know if that helps with calibrating your loudness-o-meter.

I wouldn't call it "current". Doom bands are just generally loud, it's part of the genre and has been probably since Black Sabbath. To name four of the loudest bands I've seen, Sleep have been doing their thing since 1990, Earth since '93, Yob since '96 and Sunn O))) since '98. But they've all experimented and progressed their sound and style during that time. For Sunn O))) in particular, I guess sheer volume is indeed their gimmick if you want to look at it that way, but I think it would be a bit of an unfair minimisation of what they do.

Sleep is loud because they're both tonewhores and just absolutely need four different cabs running cranked amps. And that's cool.
