I built the car and all the parts are in, the engine starts but it makes an unhealthy high pitched whirring sound. If I hit the gas it goes VROOOOO but it never goes anywhere, no matter what gear I put it in. I filled the car up on car juices. What causes this behavior in a car?

High pitched I'm thinking is your belt. You can tighten it with the car on until the noise goes away.

I tightened that however I noticed that when I tighten the scew the bit that you tilt to put tension on the kinda just moves on its own (in the direction it would go to loosen the belt). Is that normal or bug? Also is that related to the car not going cause my understanding is the belt is for making electric.

The alternator moving when tightening the anchor screw is a bug and the worst. The intended behavior is you mousewheel on the alternator body and it slides it in and out and then you anchor it with the screw. When you have the screw highlighted it often still thinks you are in the mouse zone for adjusting the body. There's like one special angle you can get so it doesn't do that, and I think saving and reloading can have some sort of effect, like everything. You also want to make sure its not too tight or it will throw the belt. You can tell by the belt animation, smooth is good, wobbly wavey bad.

Check the clutch related bits first about not moving, if you can shift around and declutch and it doesn't stall or anything it sounds like its never actually declutching. Gear box and drive gear stuff next, and maybe halfshafts if not that? Basically follow the clutch and gear shift down the line.

I am already channeling 90s PC because my toolbox just went awol through what I assume is no fault of my own (I might have... ran it over?) in a way I was never going to find it and it never respawned at the usual spots. So I stubbornly tried save editing through notepad++ for an hour until I finally realized the game falls apart at the most slightest malformed save file. I downloaded a hex editor and I was able to pop it back into the default spawn in like 5 minutes.

One of the more interesting cases of save file garbage handling was to spawn me shitfaced but it usually rebuilt the save entirely in a way that left doors and sound effects bugged. This game really is running on spit and ducttape.

I wish they would make the car a bit stronger or at least make the doors latch better. Every time I do the rally, both doors are flailing around by the time I get to the finish and the car is usually bent up even though I haven't even hit anything. Super lame.

Yeah the frame definitely needs to be stronger. I bend the door just getting in and out of the car.

But of course, unlike those hardtop coupes in Street Rod, the muscle car in MSC is a four door sedan (can someone recognize it by the way?), because before EU it was so expensive to import old cars from USA (or anywhere else) – they were taxed like they were new or something like that – so the Finnish rodding scene just had to do what they happened to have on their disposal.

You can finally sideswipe that motherfucking green bassy satsuma into the trees.

Speaking of exhaust issues: I stuck the tractor under the rear end, and got the front all the way up on the wheels. Two tries and then spinning it around to get it just the right way and voila, exhaust is on.

That car is in the lake now, though. It turned over once, then never started again.

game "allegedly" dumps parts in the junkyard if they fall through the world, and should reappear in there on a save/load, but i have never seen this because i will start a new game faster than the tree can make contact with me

It should just move the parts there if they leave a certain distance from your house and aren't attached to your car.

Naw. It would be biologically precise, because that's what this game is like. Listen to birds. Not only are all bird species singing in the game correct, but they have correct activity patterns (redwings at dusk/dawn, cuckoo at night, diver at evening, chaffinch at late morning, tree pipit during noon etc.)

It's perhaps the most accurate environmental soundscape I have encountered :wtc:

So, picked this up on a whim and despite knowing jack and poo poo about cars, have been having a real blast figuring things out and putting the car together, have already sunk around twenty some-odd hours into it and just, yes. All attempts have failed and still no idea how to properly... whatever, to the screws on the rocker thinger, but... yes.

Heh, first attempt ended in an endless cycle, I'd install the trunk and the gas-tank would fall off, I'd install the gas-tank and the exhaust pipe would fall off, I'd install the exhaust pipe and the trunk would fall off. While re-installing the gas tank for the third time, and deciding I didn't need the trunk anyways, I accidentally flipped it with the forklift and decided that I'd just start over from the beginning.

Mm, are there more games/simulators like this that would be worth looking into? Specifically, the fiddly putting together of the engine piece by piece. It's been the most, mm, not fun but... rewarding? entertainment I've had in awhile; I want more. Really do hope more cars/engines get added to this one later down the line, even as DLC or what have you, I want to try a build without a guide, at least without one written for the game specifically.

Well, the Satsuma is leaking brake fluid in one of the lines, and the engine won't start. It turns over and the oil light comes on but that's about it. It did make a horrible whining sound until I adjusted the timing belt position.

Definitely come a long way from getting lost on the lake or looking in the garage and thinking "well I know the NAMES of most of these parts..".
