For me it pretty much let my imagination take over a lot more than a visually focused game would (for the unfamiliar, The Last Door is pixelated to the point where facial features don't exist so you're going a lot more off the text descriptions of things than anything you can see)

Replaying Borderlands: Pre-Sequel and I like how they continually remind you that there's a story being told about what you're involved in, literally step by step. There's a part with a lot of dialogue and before it's over the characters that are being told the story cut in and talk about how bored they are with it and to get back to the killing.

At one point you're charged with saving a scientist or engineer and you find the guy and Tiny Tina chimes in "Ohhhh this guy is gonna die isn't he?". Then there's an argument over spoilers. I'm also pretty sure they change dialogue based on if you're going through the game the first time or second (or third).

There was a Goonmade texture replacer that changed those to the most hilarious image macros of 2009.

According to IsThereAnyDeal.com, the last time it was :10bux: (the lowest it's ever been) was January 2014 on Gamefly, which didn't correspond with any major release of something Deadpool, at least that I can find.

I definitely didn't pay that much for it but 2013-14 sounds about right. My roommate at the time was huge into comic books so I probably got it on his advice.

The Deadpool game is in kind of a weird place because it came out a couple of years ago before the movie, got pulled from digital stores due to a licensing issue, eventually was able to be sold again and then was re-released on current gen consoles.

I love all three games. I know some people here bag on them so maybe I'm just easy to please but I think they're a lot of stupid fun.

There's a bunch of "run here, grab thing, run back" side quests but they're themed for the most part, like the one about Top Gun.

Then there's the really silly ones like the one where you have to shoot the guy named Shooty McFace in the face. That's it. You find the guy, he tells you to shoot him in the face, you do, side quest over.

(Those are both examples from borderlands 2, my favorite of the 3)

I appreciate any mission in a game that lets you solve a problem Gordion-Knot style. An early mission in MGSV has you either kill or extract a spetsnaz commander from an outpost. You could go through the whole rigmarole of sneaking past and knocking out the guards there, or you could simply subdue the one guy manning a searchlight and just snipe the commander in the head as he orders a drill. Going this route nets you an S-Rank and you only have to replay it once to do the side stuff.

Compare this to your highly-scripted Assassin's Creed where they expect you to pilot a tank without getting damaged, even though you want to destroy the tank anyway, and it's like pulling teeth.

Hell, you don't even have to go into the camp. The spot where the chopper lets you down gives you a perfect vantage on the commander if you just chill out for a couple minutes while he walks around yelling at his troops. You can just snipe him from there and you're immediately out of the combat zone so the mission just ends. If you use a silenced sniper you won't even raise an alarm if you wait till he finishes speaking and goes back to his bunker alone. :shepface:

MGS5 has a whole host of not-so-obvious hidden routes to objectives. There's one mission you can complete without leaving the chopper. You just blast 'em with the minigun. Tactical! Espionage! Action!

My friend messaged me last week to say Micro$oft hosed up and made the game free. I think they then backpedaled and said it was free for "Multiplayer Co-Op Weekend." and gave it to everyone.

Not sure if you can still play it outside of last weekend. Any one else have a better understanding of what happened?

The most annoying product placement in a game for me was the Honda Element and dnL in SSX3. The way EA kept slapping you in the face with both was really irritating.

To those not in the know:
Most City of Heroes missions (instanced randomly generated maps) ended by killing all dudes and/or clicking on a mission objective.
The objects out glow and hum a bit BUT sometimes the maps would put them in really lovely locations. At one time there was a map that had an object location that could only be reached by teleportation.

Another hum replacer was a VERY nasally guy yelling, "Hellloooooo! I'M OVER HERE! OVER HERE! HELLLOOOOO!?"
It was so obnoxious that you'd find the objects in record time.

No, they didn't gently caress up. With Xbox Live gold they give different games away every month. Usually it's small random stuff you've never heard of or older games. In addition to this they have "Free to play" weekends to promote gold where they give a game away free and also let you play online for free for that weekend. The game is yours to keep but the Xbox Gold goes away after the weekend.


This weekend it was The Handsome Package (Borderlands 2 & TPS)


e: just checked and it's still there but instead of it being free it's 60% off

Most of the "kill tanks" missions can be beaten by just airlifting tanks out. One of the more annoying missions where you have to escort kids out, but takes place long before you can get the kid-safe balloon, has an airpad you can unlock right near where you first find the kids. So you can unlock that, call in a chopper and just tranq every kid and chuck them in the helicopter and be on your way, skipping like half the mission. There's at least one mission you can finish really early on by running in the wrong direction, catching up to the target early and lifting the jeep out with him and his buddies inside.

Bodyslamming, Shooting kids with rubber bullets, doing the 6 million dollar sprint punch, or calling the power of Thor to zap the entire outpost don't count as harming them either.

You should play the Shelter series then! It's full of cute badger cubs flopping and squeaking as they get washed down down river. Or a hawk scoops them up.

Titanfall 2's single player mode has a pretty neat gimmick level. You're exploring a ruined research facility and while there you start experiencing some weird flashes of the past. Turns out their experiments made time unstable in that area and you get a device that lets you jump between the present and the past at will. You use it to get by obstacles in both time periods, like a security laser in the past or a collapsed hallway in the present. Also in the past they start sending guys after you, what with being an enemy soldier in the base. However time doesn't move when you jump so you can do stuff like circle around behind a guy in the present, jump back to the past and shoot them in the back.

There are also some jumping puzzles where you're switching time periods in mid air to jump from platform to platform. Its pretty cool but it is only for that one stage.

Telltale Batman episode 3 just released and I love how DC apparently gave Telltale carte blanche to go nuts with established characters.

Thomas and Martha Wayne were brutal gangsters. Carmine Falcone gets capped by Renee Montoya. One of my choices apparently prevented the creation of Two-Face.

None of these things would fly in your usual Batman: Year One story and it's great. I have no idea where the story's going to go now, which is not what I was expecting in a game about Batman's early years.

Also, and I feel this is important: no goddamn Joker. That cackling plot vortex is nowhere to be seen so far, thank god.

Your third thing in particular is something I want to rave about a little.

In this timeline it's heavily implied that Harvey Dent is schizophrenic and bipolar, but this gets played with depending on whether or not you prevent his scarring. While this is a Telltale game and I have no doubt even an "uninjured" Harvey will eventually become mutilated, whether you save him or not significantly changes the reasoning behind why his schizophrenia becomes a full-on mania.

If you save him: He becomes extremely paranoid that he's going to be attacked again, and his split personality preys on that, pushing him towards turning Gotham into a police state and demanding more extreme sentencing for criminals as he settles into his mayoral role. When he discovers Bruce and Selina together he becomes angry and sees it as a betrayal because they could have been planning anything behind his back, and what if Bruce has ties to crime like his parents? What'll happen? He goes absolutely nuts and a genuinely angry person, lashing out indiscriminately.

If you don't save him, he falls into a massive depression and the split personality preys on his "weakness as a man" that he was unable to defend himself, that he thinks he won't be able to protect the city, etc. While Gotham isn't in any danger of becoming a police state, Harvey's split personality will lead to him beating mercenaries to death with his bare hands and almost pride in the fact his face is mutilated. He tries to hide the injury but at the same time becomes increasingly de-sensitised to what other people think, allowing it to bleed through his facial prosthetic and beginning to feel proud about it. When he catches Selina and Bruce together his split personality starts demanding he asserts himself as the man in what he thinks is his and Selina's relationship, attacking out of jealousy.


What surprised me is that absolutely none of this is played for laughs. It's a very tragic portrayal of the condition, helped along by his fantastic voice acting.

I liked what the animated series did, with his split personality only being exacerbated by the attack - "Big Bad Harv" already existed, hell he almost beat Falcone to death, the acid just brought him to the surface.
