I'm pretty late to announcer chat but Craig Ackerman (doing Rockets road games this year and going full time next) is a massive improvement. Yesterday they had an impromptu triangle history lesson. Bill and Bull are in a really bad codependent homerism relationship but Bullard is one of the few announcers who seems to actually understand charge rules and occasionally throws out stats like pace, ortg and stuff. Between running an actual offense and Ackerman I'm going to try and watch every Rockets game for the first time in a few years.

90s Mavs + 90s Bulls led me to be a 90s kid that liked the Bulls and to a lesser extent the Magic because Shaq/Penny. (Like most 90s kids.) Needless to say, I didn't watch nearly as much basketball back then.

Players I incorrectly assume every 90s kid liked (unless they were a rival to your favorite team): Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Shaq, Penny, Muggsy, Barkley, and Grant Hill. Unsurprisingly, all of those players either had great ad campaigns, were on the Bulls, or were child sized.

Gortat is a bit older, Beal is a shooter who isn't shooting well, Wall has played okay but isn't shooting well from distance and is turning over the ball 6+ times a game, Oubre hasn't taken the next step, Morris is soso. Oddly enough Otto Porter has played pretty well.

Wall is my dark horse candidate to be traded in the upcoming offseason.

If Houston's plan for hiring D'Antoni is really to just up the value of their roster for potential trades then that's pretty interesting. I'm sort of tired of giving Morey the benefit of the doubt, though.

Pretty sure the D'Antoni thing is mostly Leslie, although he and Morey are definitely in alignment on shot selection. I get the sense that Morey would've committed all the war crimes Hinkie did years earlier if Leslie wasn't in charge. Probably a good thing in the end that he is, even if I dislike his coach hires.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I feel like that balance has at least kept Houston in the market for free agents almost every year, and being in the market is what allowed them to get Harden and Howard. Howard didn't work out but it's not like they chose him over someone better.

But personally I think skating around mediocrity is fine because you never know how things are going to break. I think if Golden State had the injury troubles last year the year before we're talking about a Rockets final appearance.
