i love von balthasar but his bits about the gendered petrine (leading) and marian (submitting) aspects of the Church lead straight into theology of the body and we all know how that turned out. that said, i think a lot of his stuff is fantastic and Dare We Hope "That All Men Be Saved"? is probably one of the best treatments of the doctrine of judgment ever published. "we don't get to know that everyone is saved, but we're morally bound to hope so" is a position i can very much get on board with. also he's a cranky german who's pretty clearly much smarter than many of his detractors and knows it and doesn't hesitate to administer bitchy academic footnotes, and bitchy academic footnotes are the primal tongue of my soul

I loved when he would anticipate then Cardinal Ratzinger's possible objections, and so would immediately follow his argument with a quotation from Ratzinger that supported it.

-ta is not always past tense. It's the perfective aspect, which can also sometimes mean "things you just found out about". I don't think English has this usage, but German does the same thing with our past tense. So I put it in present tense because "JavaScript was Christian" doesn't make too much sense here.

Anyway I went to church today, and turns out Jesus sometimes does reason in his sermons:

Jesus posted:

That the dead will rise
even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,
when he called out ‘Lord,’
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
and he is not God of the dead, but of the living,
for to him all are alive.

That's some pretty solid exegesis there, thank you Jesus.
