(Yes, I know it is in fact pretty reasonable in this day and age to not need to use "personal computer" to differentiate from "mainframe", "minicomputer", etc., we just equate computer with what used to be called a "personal computer", just like we say "car" because "horseless" is the only type of carriage most people ever deal with.)

It's funny, since 2006 all Mac's have literally been IBM PC compatibles. The only practical differentiation is the software preinstalled on it.

The same thing could go for the PS4 and XBone but the platforms are a bit more locked down. It's funny to think that after all that fanboy bickering between console, mac and x86 users everyone did end up just settling on the old IBM standard.

Then again, one could argue that phones are the real personal computers today.

This game made me think of the Arcade I used to go to as a kid. It was called funland or something like that and was the perfect 1980s arecade although I think it had been around for years before. Smoky, dark had a weird snackbar and lots of delinquents hanging around.

It was in Lake Geneva, WI and had lots of older games going back to the 1930s that were still in good repair.

I remember
They had several baseball games like the one you linked but also

A 1930s one with a track the balls would roll down for pitching

And one with little figures pitching and batting

Other EM games like these golf games

And the old projector based games

I remember playing the hell out of this game with my brother
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqyyR0nfC54

Sadly the place went out of business a few years ago and the games were all auctioned off. I think the original owner had died or retired in the late 90s and maintenance hadn't been getting done on the games since then so attendance plummeted.

I finally checked this place out a few weeks ago and it was a dump. They really didn't have that many games in good repair and this was clearly filmed when they were closed as you couldn't move once a few people started to play as everything is way too close together.

Underground retrocade in Dundee is way nicer. Or just book a flight to the funspot.

I did hear about a new place in schaumburg called level 257 that is a pacman themed restaurant/bar that looks neat.

Probably because it referred very specifically to emotion faces on Japanese feature phones initially, and obviously "emoji" sounds entirely reasonable in that context, but then for whatever reason was adopted by Apple(? maybe? somebody?). Probably because it was totally cool?

Emoji support was added by Apple because they were entering the Japanese phone market and the featurephone implementations were pretty popular. Non-Japanese users quickly figured out how to use them, and the game was afoot. I assume it was somewhat similar with Android. In 2010, engineers from Google and Apple jointly wrote a proposal to add universal Emoji support to Unicode, kicking off both universal cross-platform support for the symbols and the continuing internationalisation of the symbol set with things like tacos and cricket bats.
