Uhh, no, LS3s have oiling issues when tracked. They will oil starve after like 1.2g lateral.

But wasn't the Corvette Grand Sport the best one that got the LS3 and that only hit 1g? The Z06 did 1.03 but that didn't have the LS3. Am I correct that the M3 does 0.98, so it's not really an issue on slower cars?

Edit: Oh I guess I'm quoting official numbers which are taken as an average around a circular turn, so going around a track would hit well over that.

I'm going to run it on slicks with a baffle setup. A few mates do in their LS TVRs with no issues. All of life is but a gamble.

What a stock car can do on a skid pad and what happens when you go out on a race track are two completely different things. Especially if you improve the suspension and tires and maybe have a bit of aero. So then maybe in a long, high speed sweeper you are pulling more like 1.5g.

Yeah I'm with Octopus Magic, if you're driving around a track hitting 1.5g you should have a dry sump involved.

Yeah a dry sump is great but also costs around $5k. I would definitely have an oil accumulator.

The issue is getting the oil back to the pan, not picking it up.

I don't think LS1/2s had the issue. (Comedy BP option)

Because it's apparently worth $4200. You almost have to buy it if you're that rich

The LS7/LS3 Gran Sport dry sump system is really more of a hybrid than what most people think of as a dry sump oiling system. It is still subject to crankcase windage issues, aeration of the oil, and other issues, partially because of the crankcase/pan design, and partially because it's still using the same oil pump as other Gen3/4 engines. It's better than a regular wet sump pan, but not as good as a purposeful-designed dry sump system.

I need to ask. I've seen a few cars set up like that in real life and I have to ask why? What is the point? It just seems like taking a functional car and loving it up and making it far less functional. I can't see a single way that wouldn't be poo poo to drive for a whole host of reasons.

Well, you see, wider wheels, thin tires, lowered suspensions, and slight camber are what's on race cars. But they can't afford race cars, so to show how awesome their cars are, they have super wide wheels, the thinnest tires, the lowest possible suspension, and extreme camber

From what I understand, it's pretty much the same as the GenIII/IV dry sump. Fine for a production car, but going to have issues with heavy track use on racing tires.

(Note: I'm not terribly familiar with the GenV stuff yet. Haven't gotten hands on with it yet.)

No no it is, basically making a Japanese shitbox all show and no go, not necessarily to make them "more Japanese". The acronym is what the people who do that use to defend their dumb decisions.

It's not far off, but it's the wrong engine

Anyway so this is more or less the starting point or a never ending "lets spend all the money on stupid stuff".
So I got bored with the extremely reliable single cam that appeared to never want to quit, and decided to rebuild a ka24de, then attach a bunch of stupid turbo stuff to it. If you have ever been interested in 240s, you'll know most people will end up asking if they should go ka-t, which is a aftermarket turbocharged version of the ka24de, or sr20det, which does pull a premium before race wars. Everyone will bash a ka-t car saying they aren't reliable, but are faster. Some will listen and go sr20, some will not and go ka-t. I went ka-t. DO NOT DO THIS. THIS IS THE WORST IDEA EVER AND IT WILL BLOW UP REPEATEDLY. I literally spent more time replacing head gaskets and bent rods than I did driving the car, which was quite the bummer.

Ok, I was right about the racisit-ish, JDM, pejorative nature, but race inspired cosmetic enhancements sounded just authoritative enough to maybe be a legitimate marketing term. I kinda like that Fiat joke, but my favorite one is one I heard from Adam Savage describing his new 500 a few years back:
"How do you get spare parts for your Fiat? Follow one on the highway and just grab whatever falls off."

I trust cheap(er) basic appliances far more than high end stuff. :colbert:

The low end stuff tends to be fully mechanical. IMO it's more robust, cheaper to repair, and lasts longer. Assuming you're going with major brands (and avoiding Samsung), anyway.
