Went 5-1 playing a GPT with Grixis Dynavolt. I'm so glad that everyone at my LGS for standard just plays whatever they want. Never once faced UW Flash or Vehicles the entire time. Beat Jund Gearhulks, Sultai Aetherworks, Azban Fabricate, Grixis Emerge, and GB Eldrazi. Only lost for GR Energy. Split the finals with the Emerge player because I was tired as hell playing a Control deck for that long. I was also so happy to beat the Emerge deck because I had played against the guy every week at FNM for the past month and never was able to beat him until now, 2-0.

Rinkles posted:Did not know about the Melira / Inkmoth interaction. Inkmoth doesn't lose infect if it activates w/ Melira on board. Meaning it can't even deal conventional damage. wait what? inkmoth just loses infect. it still becomes a 1/1 flying artifact creature. losing infect means it deals normal damage instead of poison counter damage

AkumaHokoru posted:wait what? inkmoth just loses infect. it still becomes a 1/1 flying artifact creature. losing infect means it deals normal damage instead of poison counter damage Melira comes in, all creatures lose infect as long as she is on the oard. Inkmoth Nexus, not a creature, becomes a 1/1 flying artifact creature with infect, thus, gaining infect. Players cannot gain poison counters and creatures cannot get -1/-1 counters. Thus, Inkmoth is a 1/1 flyer that can't do damage.

See if people freak out about what happens if you activate Inkmoth in response to Melira being placed on the stack.

Elder Deep Fiend is a home run but quite a lot of the others are just strong enough to show up in lesser numbers (Wretched Gryff, Distended Mindbender, the one that Griptides a thing, possibly the Craterhoof) to round out the theme. It's a well balanced mechanic.
