I don't even put the panels on before the first trip to the mechanic. I just need it to run so I can test the alignment and get it around the lake for service

btw, as far as tuning the stock build is concerned:

scroll down on the rocker screws 30 ish times then up 7 for no clicks.

scroll down 30 ish times on the carb then up 14 times for a smokeless run at temp.

max out the tilt on the alternator then rock it back 3 clicks before tightening the screw. double check by loosening the screw and rocking it in while running. when it squeals you need to rock out until the squeal stops.

bleed the brakes by pumping the pedal with the nut at the wheel out one at a time starting with the longest line to the shortest. there are 3 tanks that take brake fluid, and filling them takes 2.5 bottles. I'm not even sure bleeding the brakes does anything in the game...

always start the car and let it run until the temp needle centers in the gage before pushing the rev limiter. pull the choke out to start and push it in like a handbrake when the dial settles

Got my car built and the engine runs. I tuned it so there's no ticking and the fuel is just lean enough for grey smoke at operating temps.

It goes into gear fine, but when I give it any throttle in first, it stalls out. What's wrong with my ride?

e: it doesn't stall in reverse.

If its cold and unchoked? Choke it until its warm.

But even then depending on the carb tuning, the dumb car often doesn't have enough torque to move the car at the bottom of first but being a virtual car you should have no qualms about reving up before dropping the thing into first.

It was hot, butt that was the problem. I was trying to shift into first around 3000 rpm. If it's closer to 6000, it has enough torque to accelerate. I thought I tuned it rich enough. Guess not.

So hey people don't want to edit their mp3s into .ogg files and I happen to run http://www.shazbotsyndicate.com/ so why not have some (100!) pre-converted songs by artists you probably not ever heard of from that station? Of course you want them.

This is 100 songs of the synthwave-esque persuasion converted down to 44khz mono .ogg files for maximum audio realism. 99% of them have no lyrics whatsoever and none of them are mainstream at all. I find that the 1995 nature of My Summer Car pairs well with this as it feels similar enough to the 90s techno that is already in the game. Plus you don't have to do anything but unzip them in the radio folder of your game and hit a check box. Let me know if there are any issues at all.

This is cool. Thanks!

I started a new permadeath game, and i wanted to see if I could manage to compete in the rally the first Saturday. I managed to build the car, adjust it to get it inspected and do enough work to buy rally tires and an A/F meter. Unfortunately, i still had the stock carb and more importantly radiator. That dog slow lap in high gear to stop it from overheating didn't cut it. Ill try again with a fully built car next Saturday.

2 questions though.

1. Can you get the 200 Kph achievement on the stock gearing? I was bouncing on the rev limiter in top gear with the speedo needle at about the oil light, but that might not be enough?

2. Does weight affect performance? If that's the case I could probably strip the car completely for the next rally, but i'm not sure weight is simulated.

Can you only get the speed achievement in the permadeath mode? I got the highest final drive and bounced off the rev limiter with the speedometer wrapped all the way around but didn't get the achievement.

It is only available in permadeath mode, but that's what I'm playing in.
The following achievements are only available in permadeath mode according to the dev.

Oh man this game is unforgiving :(

On my first attempt to get to the shop I arrived too late and it was closed, and just now I was coming back with a mega haul, and the high of finally having a stockpile of food + the few beers I maybe drank on the way back made me speed right into a tree. Turns out permadeath is on by default.

I grew up a few kilometers from the nearest store, and they really nailed the involvement part of going grocery shopping in a remote area.

Somehow managed to flip the trailer to its side. No biggie, I'll just forklift it back up.

gently caress.

A rear wheel on the trailer is stuck underground and is making the physics go awesome. Ramming it with the septic does budge it but then it just bounces back to that exact same spot when you back away.

So when looking at the defaultES2File, it seems there are 3 descriptors for parts: status, installed, and bolted. A lot of parts are listed as "Damaged" (maybe all of them). The car has fallen off the lifts many times- could my car be hosed beyond repair?

HATECUBE

check the status of something that abuse can't recognizably break like the fuel strainer. if you've never run it check the head gasket. it would make sense of the damage tag applied to something the mechanic could fix. maybe even back up and restart to check the fresh state of those parts. could be a robust damage model that wasn't implimented, or a joke for nerds.

I really want to see an old Subaru like a brat or lx make it into the game. the age is right but no idea if they ever made to Finland. also probably way too cool or rare for the game aesthetic.

Well I opened that file in WordPad and every single part is listed three times with installed bolted and damaged next to each of them. Also listed are the mail order parts with "ordered" next to all of them. Unless you know more about the file structure than that it doesn't mean anything.

For some reason copying and pasting the code doesn't work but I wanted to show you it has all of the hubcaps written with all three statuses and I've literally not touched them or moved them, etc.

Not true! When closing the door(or the boot/hood), CLICK AND HOLD the mouse button to close it in one go! The same thing works in reverse, so you have a chance of escaping from your rolled vehicle while you keep the door open.

In the early 90's, i think poo poo cars that teenagers would have in Scandinavia would probably be Beetles, Volvo 144s or early 240s, MKI Golfs and maybe the odd Escort or Cortina. Personally, I would love a Volvo-like car, complete with ill fitting Biltema replacements. It could be "My winter car" and have realistic impossible to replace faulty heater core that ices up your windows and you die.

I'm not sure if it has been posted already but Bamses Turbo Underpants contains plenty of Volvos, Finnishness, alcohol and WTF mechanical maladies such as "Why is my engine creating enough electrical interference to kill all the computers in the dyno room?"

There is a hood release in the car. You can't just open a car's hood!

As far as I can tell, the tractor, van and truck are all indestructible, and there are two jerry cans you can use to get more fuel from the shop via the boat, which seems to have infinite fuel. As long as you have some vehicle to get out to them, they're not thoroughly jammed between some trees, and you have a little money you can probably recover. Might be more hassle than it's worth though. It only takes an hour or so to build the car if you know what you're doing.

First pop the hood from inside the car, then hold it until it's in up position.

So I was chugging along the highway in the sewage truck and came up on the speed trap, and I wanted to get out and get a closer look at everything. Unfortunately I hosed up and got the truck hung up on the ditch, and physics wouldn't allow me into the driver's side of the truck and gravity wouldn't let me open the door on the other side so I was hosed. I went up to get a closer look at the cop with the radar gun, and when I got into clipping range, he fell over dead and one of the police cars came barrelling up from the checkpoint to give me a fine for murder.

I didn't poke at it enough to suss out how it's getting stored. While a lot of it is in plain text, the data is raw as far as I can tell so you need a hex editor to not mal shape it even when copying and pasting.

I just keep a fresh save around, and replace one whole part entry with the fresh one to get it back in the garage or wherever it lives at game start.
