This is probably one of my favorite stages, for a few reasons.

I'm surprised by how much the game hasn't revealed yet, even halfway done.

This stage is great, and even if the cutscene reads a bit confusing, the most important thing is conveyed well. goodbye ms. takato, the most badass character

That's a sad update, Miss Takato got a tragic backstory and we also know that the dead don't stay dead in Hanuda

Mrs Takato lighting the candles isn't TOO weird if you think about it. There were melted candles and the mana cross in the school so clearly the school conducts prayers. Mrs Takato, as a resident of Hanuda and an employee of the school, more than likely is a member of the religion herself. And what do religious people do during crises? They pray. So seeing 4 shrines to her religion and having a lighter and 4 candles, it kinda makes sense for her to have lit them. It's just not obvious for US to do that because we aren't really put into the mind of Reiko very well.

I think the game hints pretty well that Ms Takato looks after Harumi like she is her daughter. In the starting cutscene she says "how about if I be your mother?" and then calls her "Megumi" --- which I thought it was strange (and also thought it was the name of yet another character I had forgotten about, but thankfully, it is explained soon later). No sightjacking in this episode. Wouldn't that help track whether the Shibito can find Harumi? I guess the level is short enough to repeat, and Ms Takato has a weapon, so no stealth is required, and therefore no sightjacking. Also thankfully, SGF explained the final cutscene, because yes, I didn't get where Harumi was teleported and why she was suddenly in danger. At least this time the game gives the player the "choice" to... It was an intersting reveal to be surprised by Akira being a Shibito and then find out how it happened, but the game making that choice (taking away our control) for a previously playable character who we were helping survive, was kind of a lovely thing to pull. Although, couldn't Ms Takato just run to some point in the map (like a ledge or a bridge) to deal with the Shibito one by one and overpower them? She has a weapon, and it was like only 3 Shibito...? That was very well done. I agree that it's a little easy to argue she could have run away, but considering the stress/fear she was under and her personal history, I understand the actions. This game is subtle in a way that I appreciate.

I kept forgetting this was an escort mission and then jumped every time Harumi's little loving face came running out of the shadows behind SGF. Scarier than any shibito.

Let's not forget in our mourning that she went out in a pretty badass way all things considered. Better than Akira by a country mile too.

I really liked the music in this episode. Very creepy and atmospheric. Also I haven't played this game and have no idea what happens but it appears poo poo Is Getting Real. More blood for the angry alien sea god! I'll put my bit of speculation/observation in spoilers perhaps but the shibito boarding up houses and whatever kind of reminds me of people preparing for natural disasters like hurricanes and whatnot. And natural disaster sort of seems to keep popping up with Tamon's mudslide and Reiki's rogue wave and connections to a sea god sort of makes sense in that perspective Anyway, like I said, this is more of an idle observation on my part and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the story resolves. scorpiobean fucked around with this message at 21:18 on Nov 8, 2016 |

I've never even heard of this game before and I've been having a blast, thanks supergreatfriend. I started keeping a word doc open next to the videos to keep note of my thoughts as I'm trying to figure out what the hell's going on, like if it's time travel, or parallel dimensions, or actually the underworld, or my personal favorite, aliens. The smooth side of the pyramid-shaped Mana Stone (aka “Sacred Stone from Above” archive 10) looks like polished black stainless steel and made me instantly go 'ok aliens' before I even remembered this is by the guy from Silent Hill. There's the "comet." There's the way the shibito are boarding poo poo up and being on patrols, as if they're arming and fortifying the town against... intruders? (Or they're gardening, because yeah, if people are coming over you want your landscaping to look nice. That's just basic.) There's the "glowing light flying above Gojaku Peak" the little kid wrote about in their diary sometime after 1970, archive 28. Archive 27, the picture of the miners from 1958, has a UFO. And then in episode 14 we get cronenbergs. Honest-to-god cronenbergs with hive mind mother brains and weirdly technological clicks and whirs. The tractor beam--sorry, the 'light of the sea serpent'--at the end of episode 28. And I know the “alien god” in the Hanuda Hymn Book (archive 54) from this last episode means more like “foreigner god” instead of “literally extraterrestrial god” but still. But still. I guess I'm saying I'm looking forward to the easter egg alien ending. Or at least that I hope there's one. Couple questions though. The water at the bottom of the canal after Kyoya shuts off the valve in episode 27 doesn't really look all that red. Is that a graphical thing, or is it supposed to be uncontaminated/less contaminated water? Similarly, it's raining in the cutscene with Yoriko and Kyoya, but the rain isn't red either. I'm wondering if all of the water in Hanuda is supposed to be contaminated, because (also spoilering speculation?) if so, then that should include the water vapor in the air. ...Which would make me concerned as the game goes on that a lot of our characters are gonna start dropping like dragonfly shibito

It looks clear when it's just drops, but you get a big enough concentration of it like a lake or sea and it looks blue. Only, in this case red.

This is a pretty classical atonement situation; she feels guilty about not being able to save her own daughter and thus is taking an extreme action to be certain that the shibito won't be able to get harumi. What happens if - through sheer sgf-inate pro-gaming skill or just using cheats - you disable the 3 shibito near the end? Are they just invincible? Do they wake up immediately or does it spawn 3 new ones? Is there simply no other ending trigger?

From comments on youtube for the last video, it seems Reiko does not have the stamina to actually pull it off, so the game neuters you, essentially. I don't think anyone can confirm what happens if you somehow overcome the limitations.

After the siren sounds, Reiko is running like she's already fatigued from running. Also, her movements turning that gasoline valve are VERY sluggish. I wouldn't be surprised if Reiko can take no damage before going down.

Keep in mind that this isn't her first mission, either. She had a full day, then stayed up late star gazing, then that escape from the school - which included shibito combat - and then no rest as she's been escorting Harumi around. And this entire level is long and includes lantern lighting + shibito combat, so - yeah, she's probably exhausted, terrified, and running on fumes.

What happens when you light all the lanterns? Seems like a reasonable thing to do, Missus Takato has four candles, and form what I could see on the map there are four lanterns. Can you unlock a secret ending where Akira and Reiko lives and defeat the alien god through a combination of marksmanship and teaching?
