Trump is now in the very strange position of needing to work with Progressives to pass Protectionist policies and keep the Christian Right from going full Theocracy, especicially since large scale Social Regression will ensure a Democratic victory in 2020 given how broadly accepted LGBT people are becoming. The first people on Trump's poo poo-list are not going to be private citizens who voted against him, they're going to be the Old Guard of the GOP that must be purged before he can enact the policies he ran on and ensure he holds on to power in 2020.

Modeling is assumptions based on historical data to simulate what changes if you throw x,y, or z at it. When something happens that makes the historical data way less relevant then most models will look bad because they are all have the same common flaw.

I don't get how the field was so weak this year. I recall the 08 convention thinking we'd have a deep pool in 16. Brian Schweitzer seemed like a guy that'd connect with rural America for instance, among others. Then we ended up with Mike Gravel 2.0, O'Malley and Hillary. I just don't understand these results, and hope I'll have a job by the time 2020 rolls around.

Democrats (and really Republicans too) must adjust to this new political reality which has been around for the last century. Having the most home runs doesn't win you any Super Bowls. You play the game that was agreed to prior to the start.
