team overhead smash posted:The democratic primary and the GE are different elections with different voters. As we're now seeing Clinton lost because millions of voters didn't turn up to vote for her because she is a candidate with massive negatives who didn't have a strong positive message of her own. Those are areas where it is reasonable to think Sanders would have done better. The complete and utter rejection of Jeb Bush should've been the first clue that America is done with these family dynasties. Too much baggage attached to these last names. Let this be a warning to Michelle Obama. Don't even try it.

Soul Glo posted:Serious question: Bernie would have won because the people that enabled Hillary to beat him were people of color in states we don't win who didn't turn out to vote in those states. The states that were enthusiastic for Bernie were in many cases the states he ended up needing to win the most. The whole prevailing logic behind her superiority as a candidate due to primary electability falls apart when you consider how low minority turnout was (and that they didn't even reliably break for Hillary)

Another upside: the noticeable defection of Trump voters to the Johnson/Weld ticket means more hilariously inept Libertarian politics to watch the next time around. (assuming we haven't all been purged in the heat of a nuclear inferno)

Soul Glo posted:Serious question: Most of the people who voted Hillary in the primary were going to vote Dem in the general no matter what. Minorities are a locked in Dem demographic who by and large don't get a choice. Bernie got a lot of new voters in on the Dem primaries and did very well with whites, who turned out to be the key to this election (and also every other election ever). This election also came down to turnout. Hillary could have won if she could have gotten Democratic asses out of chairs and into the voting booths, but shes a pretty dogshit candidate with no charisma or charm. Bernie could motivate people. Ironically his gently caress off huge rallies would have been what the Dems needed to turn out the vote. So the theory is Bernie would have done better with whites, not lost any minorities, and would have increased Dem turnout, all leading to a Dem victory.
