Anyone who thinks the ACA, Roe v. Wade and same sex marriage won't be repealed the second it's feasible next year is delusional. Hell, here in Australia, people said the same thing about the Mining Tax and the Carbon Pricing scheme, and that poo poo was dead the minute the incoming government had the opportunity to call a house vote. And they didn't even have the senate on lock. Then they went and repealed all the poo poo they promised not to. I wish we could offer you a better life here down under, but unfortunately the alt-rights that pull the strings in our government just got one hell of a mandate to keep going, and they sure aren't fond of immigration.

I mean the Aus re-elected the right-lurching Liberal party despite horrific performance, the UK re-elected the Tories then Brexit, and extreme right wing parties have been making ground in Europe for years now. Fact is this is America, good, bad and indifferent we're all people who share similar experiences while not always having the same outlook on them. Doom and gloom is not the way to handle this and these little meltdowns and panic attacks won't make a drat thing better. I know it seems sappy coming from a straight white guy with a good job and family land, but the source doesn't change the reality. A lot of the left's problems are very much PR ones right now, if you want to win the midterms and the next election after that, you're gonna need to stiffen the upper lip, engage in good faith and work WITH the people you might not agree with to show them you're no different than they are. By blaming this poo poo on them all you'll do is strengthen the divide and further remove your own support from the middle ground that you so desperately need. There's more to government than the president, congress and the senate, there's human beings with the ability to make exceptions, to work on the edge of the rule book and instigate change from lower levels up. Just like was said to Bernie supporters, no president can create top-down change with unilateral ability. Deep breaths guys, you're gonna be ok.

Is this math you do as a liberal to make yourself feel better? Every single lever of government has just fallen into the hands of a party that made "drain the swamp" a key policy plank. There is no positive way to read this other than "this country has survived worse". And it has.
