"Love thy neighbor as thy love thyself." The Lord said there is no greater commandment than this, along with love God with all your heart, soul and mind. Remember this. Christ said he did not come into this world to save the virtuous, but to save sinners; whether you're overjoyed that Trump will Make America Great Again and angry at liberals for America losing its greatness, or whether you're horrified of what this perceived "greatness" was, remember this. "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

Just spent about ten minutes broken down and praying. I just don't understand how this could have happened. The next four to eight years are going to be awful, plus the long-lasting damage the GOP-controlled supreme court and congress will do. And the inevitable wars Trump will get us into, which have a real risk of going nuclear. I just don't understand.

Americans and non-Americans have come to expect the role to be at least part killer-in-chief. There are national sins that do indeed need washing; they are not trivial.

Regarding US foreign policy, my general take is 'gently caress you, Americans, gently caress every single last one of you, regardless of class, color, religion, sex, or race, do you have any loving idea how horribly you've been collectively loving over the world!?' but this election result is most cruelly punishing the people who contributed to this the least. I made a couple of posts in the election thread telling people not to kill themselves over this election, and that this isn't the end of the world. I threw out every immediate "don't" reason to maybe hopefully kick some of the "should I kill myself" people out of despair, just long enough for them to think despair instead of feel despair. That having been said, gently caress unjustified optimism. You know the opium of the people quote, right? "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." Let faith stop you from sinking, but don't let it comfort you so much that you don't try to struggle. Take a drat deep long look at what's around you. How you are going to suffer because of this. How many good people are going to suffer soon, and most importantly, why. Don't wishy washy it away. Make yourself see the racism that drove what happened, and the sum of petty FYGM selfishness that drove it, and the collapsing system that drove it. Realize that people doing this aren't just leaves in the wind, they're adult human beings fully capable of choosing what to do. Ask yourself, what could have been done to change what happened. Not now, during the vote. I mean, in all the years preceding it. What did you turn a blind eye on, what did you just think would go away if you hope it would? Don't just go "God will make it all work out somehow" - If God was going to make it all work out somehow, we'd be in Heaven. That having been said, once you've taken that deep long look, maybe consider the rest of the world for a second, as well. I'm going to venture a guess that people who have the most right to be angry about the results of this election didn't have the right to vote in it, and that people aware of them are the only voice they'll ever get where you guys are. my dad fucked around with this message at 14:17 on Nov 9, 2016 |

I've been following US election news a bit over the past year, and what really disturbed me is the extremely negative view that each party's fans have of each other. I think my country is going in a similar direction, and that's pretty bad. The US will survive four years of Trump, but it's not a good sign that half the population seems to hate the other half. Love your neighbors even if they vote Trump, is what I'm saying.

Uncounted numbers of people decide to follow a path of righteousness that leads them into harm's way. personally my actual, factual plan for the next four years is to try and study japanese and either french or german (possibly both, since i only need to read it really) in order to study abroad in either japan, canada, or the uk. and since that will take 2-3 years i plan to keep an eye on local socialist and anarchist groups and take part in direct action events to protest the president and anything his republican controlled fuckfest plans on doing. and in two years i might just find myself volunteering to canvass my neighborhood to try and get out the midterm vote honestly i have no idea what to do other than this.

Mr Enderby posted:What do you do when you can't love your enemy? So this is from a little while back, but honestly I have been thinking and praying about it. It is recognized by theologians and by God that people do not love one another or themselves perfectly, and still it is important that we have this commandment in our hearts, so that we can love as fully as our hearts can. Often the most loving thing a person can manage is to wish a murderer to be incarcerated. Sometimes a situation is so critical and dynamic and life-and-death, we just wish for a perpetrator to have a quick death, and that is the most compassionate act that can be accomplished at the time. Foremost, there is a call and a need for love for the victims. As migrant sex workers, they were already a part of a vulnerable population. Without knowing, I can imagine the lack of love they suffered in their life. For those that miss them, they need love, too. If you've reached your limit contemplating love for the killer, there is plenty of welcome for compassion elsewhere. But also there are (and will always be) believers who are called or find themselves in a situation where they are trying to convey the love of Jesus to people who have done grave, terrible things. There are prison ministries, there are families and friends praying for members who've done unspeakable things, there are every day people who live under the possibility of death for a cause of love. In their attempts to do their personal missions, I believe God is with them.

all this morning, i can't stop thinking of the old groaner "God sure does have a sense of humor". a couple of the times after thinking this, i have even chuckled a little i am on the skeptical side when it comes to the mystical power of prayer, and i still don't know how to even begin to articulate what i mean when i say that i believe in "God" or "a higher power". but i just said a genuine prayer right now for God to be with donald j trump, and to be with everyone in america. i pray that God be with everyone who is sad or scared. i pray that God be with everyone who is triumphant and feels the power of victory. and i especially pray that God be with those who feel that the anxiety or hate in their heart has now been validated. now on that last sentence, when i wrote it i was thinking about flaming crosses and mosques doused in pig blood. but after i typed it out, i realize it applies to me too. this election has in some ways grown the anxiety and fear in my heart about how many of my brothers and sisters in this country cling to prejudiced and hateful views of people based on things like gender, color, and religion. but if i grasp ever tighter to these fears of mine, i will probably just perpetuate this cycle of paranoia and anger. division will not heal division

Not in my experience. The Christian Right is generally Right first, Christian second. They were never going to vote for Hillary, they just needed to invent the proper justifications for voting Trump. Clinton would have won if more Democrats had simply shown up. Turnout was the lowest since 2000. Those that stayed home effectively elected Trump.
