I was thinking about how I'd never consider for even a second going to Oakland to watch a football game even if (or I guess, especially if) they were playing the Chiefs.

But in Vegas I'm so there. I can't think of a bigger swing of opposing fans going from "gently caress no" to "hell yes" when considering attending a football game.

Sure it may ruin their homefield advantage but it will be unique and awesome in my opinion.

That ship has sailed, sports betting is legal in the UK, so the NFL can't deny a team to Vegas because of it without sounding like giant hypocrites.

The NFL has been giant hypocrites about Vegas for years? Not only are casinos themselves banned from advertising, but non-casino advertisers are banned from showing casino resorts (including their exteriors) as a background or set piece in their non-casino advertisement. A reporter investigated it in 2009 and was told any ad with Vegas would have to be all Hoover Dam and canyons etc, because even a skyline shot with hotel towers was banned.

They are, or at least used to be, so serious about this that they fined KIA for this ad. This is why the chamber of commerce crowd (casino corporate types on the stadium committee) have such a boner for the NFL. We've already plumbed the depths of "just how much do they hate us?" and the answer was, "far more than any other sports league." Vegas was as welcome in the NFL as Homer is in the No Homers Club.

And then, just when you're ready to give up and watch hockey, a kid with a bad haircut asks you to the dance...

And yet, the daily fantasy gambling ads last year were ridiculous.

Also, most NFL sports arenas are within a few miles of casinos and card rooms and poo poo. And you can totally do sports book betting online from most US states, too.

Basically I think the owners are not going to block this because they're going to figure vegas will make more money for the NFL than oakland, and the gambling thing is something most of them don't give a poo poo about, it's just a veneer of respectability that they want to maintain.

San Diego, everyone.

quote:

In the scathing letter, the neighbor called the parents out for being too "selfish" to get a big enough home with a yard for their kids. (We are not making this up.) "Because you like the beach, your boys are trapped in a tiny, one bedroom upstairs apartment," the message read. The rude neighbor then closed out the nasty letter by saying "SHAME ON YOU."

Also the fact that it literally takes separate bedrooms and a yard to be decent parents. You know, poo poo the vast majority of the world can't afford.

I was going to joke that everyone in London is a child abuser but then I realized that's probably correct and not at all in the way I intended and now I'm sad. :smith:

I feel like it's pretty tough to make a moral choice to tell an owner to gently caress himself and then you're left glowing with your good decision, not having an NFL team anymore. Congrats?

The Chargers aren't making any decisions until the year is over, which means they're going to try and negotiate something behind the scenes. My guess? Smaller TOT increase for a stadium in Mission Valley, maybe bring the county in on the vote depending if that's beneficial to them.

Aside from Chargers games, what is Qualcomm even used for? Used car sales, monster truck events, and the Holiday Bowl?

Where would they go in the meantime? The Rose Bowl has said they won't host an NFL team, and having them in AZ would anger the Cardinals' ownership.

Since SDSU plays at Qualcomm as far as I know.

e: USD has a 6000 seat stadium which might be a touch small, maybe.
