Maybe this could be the culmination of this terrible year? It turns out that climate scientists actually were cooking the books for tiny research grants. There is no climate change. Trump really did just stop Clinton from implementing Agenda 21.

Do world leaders usually send congratulation letters after the election? Or when the new president is sworn in? Just wondering if it will be Turnbull who gets to send the letter, or if Abbot has to challenge the leadership to complete his dream.

LMAO at the avatar bombs, that's the best you can come up with? What better way to herald a new US president than to buy a bunch of avatars and red texts for a bunch of Australian posters, eh. Do make sure you enjoy the afterglow, it won't last. It's going to be fun watching your baffled rage as your hero doesn't change your life for the better, even as he wrecks the lives of others. It's going to be fun watching him fight his own party which finally has all three levels of government but are terrified by whatever bright idea he has in the morning. It's going to be fun watching the idiots here cry about the latest US disaster and pretend they were always appalled (seriously, keep an eye out for that in the media, there's going to be a lot of revisionism). I expect surprises from Trump, not least that he doesn't do half of what he promised and a lot that no one was expecting. I think there are good odds that once they get through the first flurry of their social program of revenge, they'll resort to domestic stagnation and foreign policy adventurism because that seems to be the Republican way once they run out of ideas. That's bad for us, btw. It's bad for us that Trump wants to economically attack China. Globalization isn't something Trump can even stop. It's more likely that he'll take a bunch of cash in return for doing nothing. We'll see, because now the dog has caught the car and now has to figure out what to do with it.

Obviously this reason is self interest but gently caress it. This is actually what I'm more interested in than anything. Apart from the obvious of the ABCC, I don't actually know what the legislative agenda is. I suspect there actually isn't one and we will soon return to Turnbull's pre election habit of announcing thought bubbles about federal-state relations as policies and being immediately jumped on by everyone including LNP state governments.

Oh well that's reassuring then. Barnaby Joyce is on ABC24 waffling about something about how the "gravitas" of the office will smooth everything out. This widespread concept that everything will be okay and Trump will somehow prove to be something other than the clueless baboon he has repeatedly proved himself to be is loving delusional.

No, no false equivalency, please, not today. Joyce is a right-wing rear end in a top hat but he is not stupid, he is not unstable, he is a professional and capable politician, as was Tony Abbott, as was John Howard, etc ad infinitum. Even Silvio loving Berlusconi was an MP for fourteen years before he was PM. What happened yesterday is unprecedented and I - a white straight male on the other side of the world - am legitimately depressed and frightened about the future of our world.

tbh he's not wrong. Trump was shopping around for a VP who'd do all the actual politicking while he just basked in the attention; so expect Pence (who is a different kind of shitlord) to be basically calling the shots that matter. Unless someone's mean to Trump on twitter, then it's war. e. Republicans are probably going to have every level of government; the rank & file GOP would love it if Trump was actually charged with whatever fraud/corruption/pedophilia things he's being investigated for, so they can replace him with one of their own. I'm sure I read that a 45% import tariffs for goods from China is a Trump policy? That's a big loving deal I don't hear many people talking about. In my industry, anyone that's done more than spin their tyres post GFC has done it on the back of selling overseas (China) and building modern infrastructure(China). So the great orange hope for the right and low taxes and small government has been given a mandate for a GREAT BIG TAX so the government can restrict trade on goods going from China to a marketplace of 300+ million. I can't see this not hurting.
