Incrementalism is what you do when your elections and platforms are a negotiation between the populists who need to be somewhat satisfied and the elites who hold actual power. But the Democrat elites are now all on fire or have surrendered and the populists are the only guys with a plan, so that's all gone in the trash can.

that's a really excellent point, and i think it kind of glosses over the fact that wealth has waaaayyyy more to do with privilege than race, in many cases. like sure, a dirt poor white guy might not face the same institutional racism as a dirt poor person of color, but if the city they both live in has a water table that's literally toxic and there's no jobs to be found within a 50 mile radius that aren't part-time mcjobs, the white guy's overall quality of life isn't much different.

likewise, an affluent white person and an affluent person of color both have much more in common with each other than our current racial climate would like to indicate. IIRC there was a study that found that in very nearly 0% of all killings where a police officer murders a person of color, did the person of color earn more than $40k/yr. Jay-Z and Beyoncé don't face the same risks that a poor colored couple deals with on a daily basis.

Oh, he done hosed up, and a ton of his supporters hosed up getting his message out too. I find it hard to blame him too much though - he was a goddamn independent running in the Dem primary who clearly before this election never had any intent for running for President. We shouldn't have needed him, and I think he did well considering the circumstances.

All that said, I'm not sure he should run again. I think if he's willing to take a leadership role these next four years we can find someone that's even better instead of relying on a candidate who lost a primary 4 years previously, and I think he'd probably be all for doing exactly that.

Bernie had nothing to lose by changing minor things about his campaign to appeal to a wider audience. He just didn't do it. It's possible to criticize the way he campaigned without criticizing him, the candidate. He lost the primary for a lot of reasons, not campaigning in the south and not doing more to bring minority voters into the big tent were big ones.
