I talked about wondering how millennials were going to handle regression of social issues in one of these drat threads, and it's not looking good... My campus's LGBT group has canceled their weekly bowling night, citing "safety concerns" following the election. Apparently a drunk Trump supporter cursed at them this week... thus causing a group of 15 people to feel too unsafe to bowl. A lot of young people are going to have to harden the gently caress up and fast.

people are fully entitled to be sad and upset and angry just make sure you channel those emotions into doing something, namely making sure the democratic party learns the correct lesson Karl Barks posted:this is accurate. there was a movement member and labour party rep at our last DSA meeting what's the DSA exactly? is it a separate organization that's democratic party affiliated?

The Kingfish posted:Right. The same type of pragmatism brought to us by Bill Clinton and third-wayism. Bill Clinton and third-wayism were run, and worked at the time, because people were scared of socialism, scared of 'leftism,' and scared of anti-business redistribution so it was basically what they saw as the only way you could shift things to the left a bit-and in some real ways it worked. A populist progressive firebrand trying to run on a Sanders-like ticket in 1992 or 1996, during an economic boom where everyone was getting rich would be a longshot. Maybe the party should have gotten the message in 2004 that the Republicans are going to be better at being centrist and pandering to right-wing fears than you are most of the time, and Bill definitely sowed the wind that led to Hillary reaping the whirlwind, but like, not every long-term mistake is some sort of malicious evil or gross incompetence. I don't think it's healthy to act like everyone major in Clinton's camp was evil and/or incompetent because that leads into a circular firing squad mentality. They hosed up. They should own it, apologize for loving up, talk frankly about what went wrong, and give the tools that can be salvaged to people like Sanders who can use them better. But in any sort of battle, whether it's political or military, loving up is the gold standard and it's hard to not gently caress up.

Larry Parrish posted:Why take over the Democratic Party when you can shatter the two party system. Hey if Trump and centrism are so awful that you can actually run a progressive socialist against Trump and a milquetoast generic Democrat candidate and win against both, go for it. But that's unnecessary risk when it looks like the democratic party is perfectly willing to hand over its infrastructure and tools to said socialist if he can not scare them for long enough.

C-Euro posted:Didn't see this in the last few pages- The mood right now is that Democrats seem to be incapable of realizing they need more than blue coastal strongholds to govern the country. People are still screaming about the popular vote and not realizing that running up the score in California and New York doesn't mean a goddamn thing if you lose the entire Rust Belt because you somehow forgot to make it a priority. Democrats need to realize middle America is a must win group and find ways to consistently bring them on board. Obama did it twice! The electorate is already out there! They aren't even the racist boogeymen the WokeLords are crying about. They just want someone to give a poo poo about their dead unions and dying towns, and maybe recognize that all of civilization is not found within 50 miles of an ocean. WokeLords need to stop being so prejudiced against white voters if they want to get anywhere. Especially white rural voters. E: They probably won't though. Theyre gonna double down on racism, both their own prejudices and as a label for people they look down on
