Something else to think about is that it is very likely that GOP voter suppression efforts are going to be ramped up, if you aren't willing to fight tooth and nail for minority voters that combined with apathy is going to lead to losing big bases of support over time, and if you're really worried about winning over all else losing lots of voters to your opponents machine seems like a bad strategy. We're all in this together and flipping out about how everybody is calling you racist when people are questioning your intentions ain't gonna do much.

There were a lot of center right posters who were at least intellectually honest, usually, but upon Obama's election a lot of them reacted... poorly. Some were banned but others because the forum has shifted away from their politics just moved on. I don't think there was really a massive change in moderation, though moderation was a lot more heavy handed in general back then. Probations and bans were simply handed out more regardless of forum.
