That should have been my signal, that not everyone's lives got better after Obama. This means his charisma and his entreaties were largely ignored by those who could have swung this election in a different direction.

Unfortunately, this is kind of an environment full of untapped populist rage and a good chance that the populist rage is gonna get worse. In an alternate universe where the Clintons' Third Way is very successful and doesn't create a Rust Belt and center-left milquetoast policies have been found to be highly successful he might be a good candidate. We don't live in that universe.
