DoubleDonut posted:as I recall, Iwata was a big part of why gen 2 managed to do as much as it did he did a lot of things. definitely not your average president during his time at HAL. of course, back in the days when they had a literal handful of programmers doing pokemon games, having one dude step in was all the more impactful. Without even needing the guidance of the core team, Iwata read and figured out the source code for R/G and showed the localization team how to work with it, and compressed the battle system code so that Miyamoto's team could use it for Stadium. and then famously, he was able to compress graphics codes for the G/S games which made the inclusion of Kanto possible. basically, iwata asks was just a really good segment. highly recommend
