Oh, jeez. Somehow the description of Kanon sticking his fingers in there grossed me out more than the Halloween banquet  On another note, I've been thinking about what somebody else in this thread said about the term "furniture" seeming to mean the same thing as "familiar," and with this update something occurred to me. The stakes, 'icepick' weapons or whatever, all correspond to the names of some bigwig demons, according to "the witch's game record" from ep 1: Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Mammon, Satan, Lucifer, Belphegor, and Leviathan. At the time I'd just thought it was some extra flavor to build on the occult themes that were already going around...but then we saw Asmodeus and Satan with a presumably human form. (Albeit a super anime form, but still.) Anyway, since there didn't seem to be much distinction between those two and the 'furniture' of the Ushiromiya house, and seeing how Genji acted in this latest update -- and especially now that I've realized his name is Ronoue Genji... Wikipedia on the demon Ronove posted:In demonology, Ronove is a Marquis and Great Earl of Hell, commanding twenty legions of demons. He teaches art, Rhetoric, languages, and gives good and loyal servants and the favour of friends and foes. He is depicted as a monster holding a staff, without detailing his appearance. He is also described as taker of old souls; often coming to earth to harvest souls of decrepit humans and animals near death. Other spellings: Roneve, Ronové, Ronwe. At this point, it seems like a bit much to count as coincidence. Not that I have any idea what this could mean for Shannon and Kanon of course, or how any of this could be explained by human means v  v But I thought it might be worth pointing out, even if it doesn't amount to anything in the end!(p.s. this is a fantastic LP so far, prof, thank you so much for doing it! My friends have been on me to read umineko for years and now that I've come this far it's a real struggle to not read ahead on my own  )

Jeez, Beatrice, first goat-men and anime girls out of nowhere, and then just puppeteering corpses around like nothing? She really does seem to come off as an unseelie faerie here, doesn't she, from the kinds of stories told pre-WWI and elves were Santa's helpers or makers of cookies- beings who lived in dark forests where no man treads and performed abominable acts on those they could catch... things that taught us to fear the dark. As for what's happening here... I dunno, I need more information that it happened at all. I'll bet Beatrice has broken out the fanfiction again and is regaling Battler, who has truly learned the meaning of hell.

I have no idea what's going on. If Gohda hadn't been there, I would have said that all the servants are untrustworthy narrators who can be made to see things that aren't there (cf maria making them all look behind Battler), but he throws that out entirely. Unless it's another application of the wolves and the sheep parable, and people

Gohda is a servant as well. But yeah he does not seem be be as in the know as the others. Also they really should have picked out that "Kanon" was lying about Rosa. As Rosa has the iron clad alibi of being with a group of people at all times before Jessica's death.

To my knowledge there's no separate soundtrack album (unless you count the anime one but that's almost all original stuff, it's still pretty good though) so you might want to simply buy EP8, I assume it has all the songs used in the entire series as plain ogg files. If it doesn't have all the EP1-4 files you'd have to buy EP4 as well I guess.

The best thing about this scene is even Beato's laughter is in red, so we don't have to feel bad about laughing at Battler, because his suffering is objectively hilarious.

So... hasn't she contradicted herself in red now? "Any kind of locked room can be created or destroyed" vs "The door and the window do not permit any kind of entry or exit when they are locked." Still doesn't have an exception for magic. As for the locked room... hmm. I still think they should check all of the master keys to make sure they're present and are the real master keys - we've heard in red that there are no copies but there could be fakes that don't work. Also I'm kind of astounded that Kinzo doesn't have a master key himself. That's weird. I wonder if he's died yet.

I believe Beato's general intent with the red is that true magic would be able to do the impossible, so even if something is impossible, if she's a great and powerful witch, she could do it anyway.

Yeah, I think the implication is "if something is impossible, a Any contradictions in red text are meant to drive the other player into "this is a failure state without actual magic"; magic's entire purpose is to break the rules of the game at all opportunities.

Discovered this LP a few days ago, binge read it and I was reminded of the fact that I got like, to episode 6 or 7 before I just lost momentum. Rediscovering Umineko was/is real fun. Seconding Viola by the way, the sudden shift from Napstablook to Beato was super jarring.

I'm not believing in magic here, so I think Genji slashed the hell out of whoever was pretending to be Kanon. Since Gohda wasn't allowed to wear the one-winged eagle, there's probably a lot of stuff that he's not allowed to know, while Genji and Shannon are trying to do damage control on their side. They both make Gohda agree to some lousy cover story ("lol just say you don't know anything"), and Gohda's forced to roll with it.

Do you know the truly unforgivable thing about abuse, parent to child, sibling to sibling, master to servant? It isn't the violence itself, though that is bad enough; it isn't the fact that abuse can escalate to murder, either by the abuser going too far or the victim deciding they've had enough and killing the abuser, though that is truly monstrous. No, the worst part of abuse is what it does to the survivors later, after they have internalized years of pain and degradation at the hands of someone who was supposed to take care of them- the altered mental state, the strangled capacities to learn and empathize, the quickness to use knife and fist yourself. And most of all, the viewpoint that comes when one stops asking "What did I do wrong?": you did nothing wrong, it's just the way of the dark, cold world. A vast merciless universe with no love or peace or help from pain, in which there are always two people, those who are hurt and those that do the hurting. If one does not have their foot in somebody else's face, then one is on the bottom and has lost, and there are only two recourses, to bash your way up to where it stops hurting so much, or look forward to the day that existence ends and the pain will stop. Rosa has lived her entire life under the shadow of her harsher, crueler family, and when she is given power over others, no matter what she wants to do with it, she plants her foot in her servants faces as her father did to her. And Maria, whose face was the former and only holder of her mother's boot, only longs for the Golden Land of her dreams, where nobody hurts or shouts or cries, which was promised to her by the witch just like all the abusers and parasites of humankind promise an end to suffering in the next world for obedience and compliance in this one. And Battler is only now seeing this for the first time, and it is horrifying and soul-breaking to him, the world of reason, of logic, of love and comfort and joy being swallowed, swallowed in a morass of hopelessness and horror... and ever surrounded by a cackling, cackling in red.

Like, I don't want go excuse anything Rosa does in this episode, but I think it's important not to forget the context of Rosa's life, which has pretty much been a conga line of misfortune, abuse, and powerlessness. It's not surprising that, when she is finally freed from much of what torments her, she simply revels in the power and authority she never had before. To bully others is the ultimate right of thone who have been bullied before, after all.

I think the red previously only said there's one master key per each servant, which made some people rightly suspicious, but now we've got a cut and dry total number for them: five. Exactly as expected. You should've just trusted the witch to begin with
