Yeah I don't care at all about renaming cities and have literally never done it (even when it was an achievement in V), but the lack of a sentry option is truly baffling. I understand getting rid of doomstacks, I understand districts. I do not see any gameplay reason for ditching sentry whatsoever.

I think I'm at the point where I am going to cool it on Civ (60 hours played) until they at least patch it or maybe until the next expansion.

Like, if they add in the build queue and fix the trade route/espionage interfaces I will feel more confident they know what they're doing.

It took me a while, but I now feel relatively comfortable with espionage. There needs to be a way to look at the list of cities in the trade UI and know which ones already have traders headed there. I'm trying to establish trading posts everywhere, dammit. Also, make it clearer where there are and are not roads.

There are mods on civfanatics for trade route screen fixes (allows you to sort by whatever resource you like), which works quite well, there is also one for a production queue, but I haven't personally tried it.

I honestly wouldn't mind the fact that it takes three clicks to set a spy to do the same exact counterspy mission, or even the fact that you have to do it every 4 turns, but combined it is just the loving worst

Is there a mod available that increases the number of strategic resources in the game? And has anyone tried it to see if that helps the AI? It's really tough to play with 6 or more Civs because the resources are so scarce. And unless you have an encampment, you need 2 of each to build the proper units in a city. Now I understand making things like Uranium scarce, but isn't aluminum one of the most abundant elements on the planet? 2 of the 7 remaining Civs in my game had access to it near the end.

Don't international trade routes boost tourism for your Civ in the game?

Yes, but +X% of (????) doesn't really give a clear idea of how much you are helping with that trade route. With V's cultural victory I had a clear sense of how I was generating tourism, and which civs were going to be the major holdouts that I needed to target with diplomacy and Great Musicians.

Every time I look at VI's tourism screen all the civs appear roughly the same and the screen has no useful information. So I just build the suitcase things and wait

You can see the trade route / open border effects by hovering over the civ in the tourism screen. Why this is a tooltip when it's a super-important piece of information (V had a separate column for this) is a mystery, just like the actual tourism mechanics

Yeah I have no clue how any of it's calculated. It does show the 25% bonus for a trade route though and the -50% on religious tourism once you hit the enlightenment apparently.

Or until they level up. The promotions are foreign spying-centered. I liked that spies would start out as counter-spies, learn a trick, and then go out into the world as specialists. Having them keep going until they get caught, successfully do a heist, level up, or get moved around by me would make it a pretty fun system.

I keep sending spies out to steal things from other countries, they learn how to do stuff that's better back home, and then I have to shuffle everybody. (Congratulations on stealing all that money! You are now the quartermaster and can never leave home again.)

I can't say I've ever seen anyone get one from an antiquity site nor are they listed as a possible yield from them anywhere in-game or in the manual. Unless you hit some strange bug I haven't seen mentioned anywhere, you're probably confusing them with normal Artifacts.

The theming bonus is for artifacts all of the same era but from different civilizations.

Unless you're England, who automatically gets the theming bonus once their XL-sized museum is full with any type of garbage

So far it seems like the theming bonuses are all "same era/type, different civs/artists", so pretty much choose whatever is not your civ's artifact if you have a choice.

This is actually pretty neat. Stealing Great works is awesome. There should also be an option to sabotage/destroy great works but it only works if you are currently leading the culture/tourism wars, think of it as rewriting history. That way it gives civs going for the cultural victory a method of staying ahead without just straight up going to war. Additionally if you are behind, you can steal enough great works to get ahead, then start rewriting history

There are a lot of really cool dimenions added to Civ VI, even though some are still half-baked.

The more I play VI and the more I hear what people miss about IV, I think what it boils down to is that IV was a more ideal multiplayer game while V and VI took the series to a deeper and more true civilization (lower case intentional) experience. IV was the peak of the series in terms of playing like a deep board game - faster-paced, lots of combat, minimal systems to distract from the core objectives. But V and VI definitely blow IV out of the water in terms of being a civilization simulation.

It strikes me conceptually as religious rubberbanding mechanic, especially if you pick that tenet where you don't lose presence when you lose an apostle, as I sometimes do as Egypt, since I don't care to spread my religion to others.

The scale is a bit small, but it wouldn't be the only half-baked thing around.

Not sure how bad of an idea this is on Immortal and above (I've only played a few Immortal games so far), but I always seem to gravitate towards Scout Scout Builder Slinger Slinger Settler Builder Trader followed by more Settler spam until my initial territory is covered. The second city starts spamming archers and switches to builders after I'm at 5-6 archers. The double scout start is mostly just a leftover from Civ 5, but most of the time I get a decent number of goody huts and 2-3 early envoys to city states, so I guess it isn't all bad.

This is something that I think is an inherent dilemma in the AI. Do you want the AI to try to win the game, or do you want them to simulate relationships and react accordingly? Civ VI I think they actually made the AI more directly trying to win, but that means as soon as you take anything resembling a lead in any victory condition you are treated with disdain and the CPU starts marshaling its resources to knock you off your perch.

I miss some of the previous Civ games where I had civ bros who would join up even if it meant killing their chance of winning. Like, play for 2nd place sometimes.

What people actually want is an AI that you can understand and manipulate on the strategic level (diplomacy), but who plays competently on the tactical level (using units).

Started a new game and met Egypt who then denounced me in a couple turns and Greece who declared war on me right after introducing themselves. Funnily the game bugged and showed my civilization declaring war on me as well. This is on Warlord. Egypt denounced me because I didn't have a big army. Greece as far as I could tell declared war on me because I haven't declared war on anyone.

I happened to be a little out of the way and they all met and started killing each other before I even came on the scene. My only war was with France and I declared it because I was worried about them beating me in culture. Everyone still hated me like I killed their dog though.
