Part of the problem is that Republicans really do just fall in line. That's a problem for the Dems. Dems gotta work harder to deliver their base than Republicans do. Luckily, their base is larger. e: corollary is we can't just shame Republicans into switching sides or not voting. Doesn't work. All this rah rah nationalism military american exceptionalism crap at the convention didn't do poo poo.

The white working class should get a mention and advocacy as a group, this should not come at the expense of other groups.

Its not calling out racism that is bad, it is acting like people from rural areas are dumb hicks who just won't get with our enlightened way of living. Racism isn't a rural thing racism is prevalent in every area at every income level believe it or not.

And please post the quote where someone said or reasonably implied that "we can't talk about racism"

Peel posted:the mrmcd guy above for one A lot of those people also voted for Obama so ... ??? I'm not saying that we should be racist, or you shouldn't be personally disgusted by racist people. I'm saying the only thing Trump shows is a) racism still exists and b) the Republican base does not give them any meaningful electoral penalty for being racist. Hurling disgust at racists on the internet can be cool and good on a moral and emotional level but does not fix the problem of "how do we win elections". Lots and lots of racist people have been voting for the other side since forever. Of those 6 million Obama voters that "evaporated" only a fraction "rematerialized" for Trump.

In fact the fact that racism is all around is what makes minorities so jumpy about this poo poo in the first place. It starts as stuff like 'hey man we just want school choice for EVERYONE right?' and quickly morphs into 'also maybe we should give these specific schools a leg up because that'll make it easier to get the white support' and then woops Sam Bee and her husband are literally telling people black people shouldn't come to their kids' school in New York!

Thoguh posted:Tatum setting up a strawman and then smugly knocking it down? It couldn't be. I guess it's just the general trend of acting like anyone saying 'actually a lot of trump voters were racist as gently caress' somehow is going against what needs to be done? I dunno man I've seen a lot of pushback in a lot of different places to people saying Trump's campaign and support had a lot of bigotry to it. The idea that somehow a trump dude saying a racist thing and saying racism was a factor in a poo poo load of trump voters are both equally wrong to do, that's what I'm talking about I guess.
