Why the hell would Trump back down to the GOP congress? The public hates congress and he just won the election with them openly being contemptuous of him. He can threaten to unleash the Pepes on Rand Paul and his ilk.

You know, I think history will look back and view bernie as a pivotal and transformational figure in american politics, right now an entire generation is witnessing a literal threat against their lives, the second biggest party is in complete dissarray, hope is really getting a beating. Normally what happens is that these parties would dissolve into a complete civil war and flail around, but with bernie sanders you have a guy who is literally the right man at the right time with the right mindset taking control and making the right calls. The fact that bernie is pushing his ideas in full force through the public facing media AND down the throats of the democratic establishment is a really good sign that the right calls are being made. He is a really good opposition figure to Trump in every way, from his style, to his rhetoric, to his actions. I really hope for people's sake he can carry on this fight as he's doing now in these dark times.

I will give the DNC credit they aren't treating this like Labour in the UK did where after Brexit they immediately tried to go after the popular leftist guy and started an internal civil war which lasted for months.

It's only been a week. We'll see how the DNC chair thing goes and Pelosi's reelection as minority leader in the House. There is still plenty of time for the knives to come out.

Fair point but Labour seemed like it didn't even wait for the votes to be finished and Bernie has already been getting ahead of the messaging on a bunch of news programs. If they want to start an internal war to save the Clinton faction after it becomes even more clear how bad both parties have been loving up they aren't going to have an easy time of it.

That wouldve been completely unthinkable a week ago because they wouldve been too concerned with appealing to the center and their imaginary 'moderate republicans'. And already Bernie sanders has been cutting deals, taking control and shaping the message, this normally in shittier parties like Labour would take years for them to come to that conclusion.

I think the Blairite shitbags in Labour underestimated how popular Corbyn would be with their party's supporters. I don't think that'll happen with Bernie because of how well he did in the primary. They will at least humor him, but the real test is if they try to keep control of the DNC out of their hands.

If only donating to the DNC would turn it from the party of, "We're sorry!!" to the party of, "Go gently caress yourself," while maintaining all its actual social policies..

I think it just depends on how well an Ellison-led DNC does within the next 2-4 years. I think Clinton's loss really shook up or permanently disgraced a lot of establishment people and they're desperate for any strategy that works. If Ellison can make gains and build a strong roster of progressive candidates, that window might stay open indefinitely.

Pretty much. At this point it's crystal clear that people like DWS, Kaine, Hillary, Brazile, etc... were horrible leaders who jumped ship on their golden rescue boat and left the rest of America to deal with Trumps administration.

Then Bernie said "hell no" and began fixing the gushing leaks and by bilging the water and rowing twice as hard and he's not gonna give up until we all reach the land of economic and social justice.
