If you haven't bought it yet, you might as well wait until the Christmas steam sale (probably just -10% though), so that you get both a patched version and unlock Monty.

Ignore my doomerism, I don't think better things are possible
Civ 6 is like all previous Civ games at launch - in need of a lot of refinement, and not quite up to par with the previous game +2 expansions.

I would add that Civ 6 is probably the best vanilla release so far. We aren't waiting for additional systems to be added on expansions, and there is a lot of potential in what we already have. With the typical improvement we get after patching and each expansion, Civ 6 will easily be the best entry in the series.

I suspect this is possible as long as you are objectively losing.

If you think you're going to get it when it hits a 10% sale, you can get it right now at GMG for $48. Like all Civs it'll likely be way better after expansions, but you can have a lot of fun with it now (40+ hours) AND ALSO play the expansions so I don't quite understand the logic of waiting. But to each their own.

The mechanics are pretty good. A few need tweaking. The AI is terminally incapable of using those mechanics. I'm not sure if they'll be able to really fix that.

With the exception of Civ3 which I found totally unplayable I don't think I'd put this above the releases of the other Civ games. There's a lot of mechanics but they don't feel like they work paticularly well and the UI is so bad as to actively hurt you while playing!

Civ6 is a fun civ game and you should buy it. However, there are some caveats. If you are poor, or a student or something equally financially challenged, then you should know that you should eat and pay your rent and finish your schooling and deal with whatever choices you've made to put yourself in that position BEFORE buying Civ6. Civ6 not only won't solve these problems for you, in it's current state it won't distract you from them from very long. BUT, if you're a normal productive adult and the cost of Civ6 is on par for what you pay for dinner every night, or not even a fraction of what you pay on an average night out, then sure it's plenty fun for the first couple of games right now and you'll be all over the quite radical changes by the time the patches and expansions come.

So, is Civ6 a better game than Civ5 or Endless Legend or BF1? Um, probably not right now, but it's still pretty drat awesome and if you like Civ games and you're one of the afore-mentioned grown-ups then just click buy next time you're on Steam and enjoy what is there now.

You spend $1800 on dinner every month, assuming no eating out? You regularly spend $200+ (on yourself only) on a night out? And this is normal productive adult spending? Am I reading this right?

Also you can now name cities, auto unit-cycling can be disabled without going into the config, you can't harvest tiles (presumably including forests) outside of your borders, warmonger penalties reduced (except for the killing-a-civ one), religious units are more expensive and more potent. You can right-click on units to get their civilopedia page, and close most tabs/windows with Escape.

I'm a few hours away from playing, but this sounds like a really good list.

Adjusted religious pressure when a religion is first founded to give them more resilience and convert the city.
Adjusted relationship decay rates.
Reduced the effectiveness of cavalry production policies.
Reduced Warmonger penalties in most instances, and adjusted how this reacts to returning versus keeping a city. The last city conquered from a player now provides a heavy warmonger penalty, even if you have a Casus Belli against this player, because you are wiping out a civilization.
Reduced border incursion warnings if the troops are within their own borders.

Increased the number of Great Works of Writing slots in the Amphitheater to 2.
Increased Counterspy operation time.
Increased the cost of Religious units and applied additional charges.

Increased AI use of Settler escorts.

Tuned AI usage of units that cannot move and shoot, like Catapults.
Tuned AI city and unit build planning.
Improved the ability of city-states to maintain a strong military.

[BUG FIXES]

Fixed some production Social Policies, Great People, and Pantheon bonuses that were not applying correctly.
Fixed Royal Navy Dockyard not getting the right adjacency bonuses.
Fixed some issues with how the Great Wall was built by players and AI, including proper connection to mountains and removing other players’ Great Walls as potential connection points.
Fixed a unit cycling error with formations.
Fixed a bug where the first military levy that expired would return all levied units (including those levied from other city-states) to that city-state. Now it should only return the levied units that actually originally belonged to the one city-state.
Fixed several issues when Airstrips and Aerodromes are occupied, including forced rebasing of enemy units and UI updates.
Fixed an exploit that allowed ranged and bombard units to gain experience when attacking a district with 0 hit points.
Fixed an issue with wonders when transferring city ownership – conquering a city with a wonder would not track that wonder, and could lead to problems when attempting to use Gustave Eiffel.
Fixed an issue where the Settler lens would not always show the right information to the player.
Fixed an issue where AI would counter gold changes with the change desired, rather than the total amount of gold desired.
Fixed an issue where the Tutorial intro and outro videos would appear off-center in certain resolutions.
Fixed some crashes with units.
Fixed an issue where multiple leaders of the same civilization would frequently show up in a game.
Fixed an issue where Trade Route yields were doubling in some instances.
Units in formations now break formation before teleporting between cities.
The achievement ‘For Queen and Country’ was unlocking too frequently.
AI with neutral relationships should accept delegations barring exceptional circumstances.
Can no longer declare a Joint War if it is invalid for either party.
Save game files should no longer be case sensitive.

Allow multiplayer lobby's private game status to be toggled once the lobby has been created.
Cap the max players to 12.

[UI]

Added the number of specialists working a tile.

Well, I meant eating out the minimum I would pay per head is $60, the price of the game, and that happens reasonably frequently. If you go out for a night of drinking or whatever, spending 200 or 300 isn't particularly unusual. Basically the cost of the game is nothing compared to average entertainment spending, but that only applies if you have average adult entertainment spending and if you're eating ramen in a dorm then sure game out your 10% discount or whatever.

Here is the patch. HERE IS THE PATCH. ITS HERE

It's really not rocket science. Learn something in demand that you don't mind and go and make money. Notice how 'something in demand' comes first in the sentence before 'something you don't mind'. That doesn't mean you need to go and learn how to become an accountant, but if you keep marketability clear in your mind when choosing a profession you should have less chance of ending up disappointed.
