Especially with the squelchy sound effects. My kid plays it and loves it, but I try to be out of the room. It can absolutely be done well, it just hasn't in 99% of the cases and tends to devolve into "the nerd creator thinks that for it to be art it has to be dark and involve mommy/daddy problems" or something like that and after the 30th game with a tiny, big-headed protagonist in a dark foreboding world I was just sick of it.

I was just trying to dig up this old deviantart post from like a 13 year old girl who made some big-headed anime eyes characters that were ~edgy~ as all gently caress, i remember one of them was like, a ghost of a dead girl who had her face permanently cut and sewn into a smile and was raped to death and now she's the most badass girl ghost ever and is out for revenge!!!! Not that she has anything to do with death metal, it's just the example I thought of when thinking "do girls do this too"
