My pet theory is that Trump regards Kushner as a younger version of himself he can live vicariously through/trust, and it's really gross to watch. I literally can't think of another reason why Trump trusts this random guy so much other than he's a loyal, Jewish carbon copy of Trump.

The political gossip mill's been very quiet regarding Kellyanne Conway, who seems to be literally the only publicly political woman in Trump's immediate orbit these days. (Ivanka whispers in his ear but seems to be mostly busy trying to peddle her random poo poo.) Any guesses re: her role in the administration, if at all? She might decide to take the money in run but I doubt it.
Since Trump's views on women are firmly medieval, then I can only imagine he sees himself as some 16th century Duke whose biological sons are pampered dandies unfit to rule, forced to marry his beautiful daughter off to a son-figure worthy of succeeding him on the throne.

Also, I can't believe Sessions would ever use the justice department to carryout his crusade against weed. It would be the most hilarious hill for them to die on. Legalized marijuana support is at an all time high, even among Republicans.

Trump wouldn't be wrong about his sons being unfit to do anything, they're terrible. Probably has something to do with their father being narcissistic.

The success of the Trump administration will hinge on whether he's willing to go through with programs that poll very poorly or not. The wall, slashing medicare or social security, and the war on drugs all poll poorly but they are all things Republican politicians still love.

I expect the same from a sessions crackdown on porn and cheetos. Hell, gutting net neutrality means ISPs will probably put the sites they like into an exclusive $10 a month shitlord package and they'll still beg mom and dad to shell out for it without a sense of irony.

Approaching Trump from a medieval perspective is really the best way to understand him most of the time.

I also suspect Sessions wouldn't touch weed so he can focus his energies on accomplishing more insidious racist poo poo but we really have no way of knowing exactly how much leeway everyone's going to be given to flex their muscles on their random pet policy issues.

From a Justice Department perspective, I assume Sessions would go after states (like CA and Mass) that have passed state laws that are in direct conflict with Federal regulations. The success of recreational bills this election will almost certainly lead to more states attempting this in the next election cycle. Fighting tooth and nail to stop this would absolutely be a huge waste of their time and energy.

Can we get the US posters complaining about how the Democrats gonna crat' to just run for local elections and change the party from the inside? Isn't there like a tonne of otherwise dead end positions that are unopposed and only take like 13 votes to win? Use those as a means of gaining credibility; run as an independent if it's deeply red (But privately agree to caucus with the Dems if they give you some funding).

That's a non-issue. Usually the announcements come later for the major positions. The real issue is how long it took for them to contact the departments needed to start the transition.

Local politics tend to be dull and thankless affairs dominated dominated heavily by personal drama and local machines. Yes, a locally-elected office can serve as a stepping stool to higher positions, but very few people are willing to put in the years of unpaid work needed to make themselves a credible force within the party and the community. It requires a lot of schmoozing, grovelling, and "waiting for your turn."

There could be a couple faithless electors, but we'd need something like 37 of them to take the election to the House or give it to Clinton. That's like .00001% likely, based on my extensive mathematical research.

If they elect Clinton they'd probably breathe a sigh of relief for a moment until they realize that the shittiness of the past 8 years was only at, like, a 6 and is being turned up to 11. Nobody doubts she'd be able to staff a government and probably do it within 3 days since everyone here knows she'd almost certainly frontloaded all that poo poo assuming she'd walk to a win. The GOP would light up like lewis black's character in inside out, full-on shrieking torch mode. The past 8 years would look like a peaceful dream in comparison.

This would be unprecedented (and will not happen) but they would follow along with the transition of power just fine. The electoral college being an antidemocratic sack of poo poo gave us Trump and they had no problem with it, because it's all quite Constitutional, as would be a giant faithless-elector revolt.

What you should be worried about in this ludicrous hypothetical is the Trumpets and the Republican Party at large, which absolutely would not take that lying down. Picture Bush v Gore but far, far worse.
