I learned that Trump's flim flammery is distracting us from the true threat, the meteoric Rise of the Loafers.

"The Loafer Steps Up" presents the image of something meeting a recent obstacle that needs to be addressed with urgency. The "loafer", like liberals after Trump was elected, is just one being coming forward to face whatever challenge steps forward. "The Rise of the Loafer" is a celebration of conservatives seizing power and foretells their coming victories. The image, like the ideology behind the ad, symbolizes both the joy Republicans feel with the recent election and a return to a more joyful, innocent time in our history.

As I recall, this was because Trump said one thing at his meeting with the Mexican president in the morning, then turned around and went full fascist at his rally in Arizona in the evening. My guess is one market edition went to print at a later time, and could thus incorporate more recent information ("whelp all that softening poo poo was wrong, turns out"). But what do I know, maybe I'm just a sheeple.

Kelly's still a Fox News employee, so clearly not the world's most principled person, but she's stepped up this year in a way I didn't think anyone there was capable of. She was one of the main mouthpieces for the hate machine that made Trump possible in the first place so she can go gently caress herself.

No I find Adam Curtis and other similar BBC culture and art critics very annoying, and Adam Curtis himself especially hypocritical. The stuff of his I've seen is half-baked pseudo-philosophical commentary, which is fine in the right context, but it always seems to be presented as if its a normal journalistic work with high standards of evidence and pretensions of objectivity when it lacks all of that, and even criticizes the tendency of other media to manufacture narratives even as it does the same. Also because it rarely includes information I don't already know I find his work boring. He just offers cultural criticism with little more depth or insight than Glen Beck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY7B2-Wqj6g People approach Adam Curtis with the wrong mindset imo. He's not a straightup documentary film-maker, he's an artist appropriating the documentary form. His work isn't a dry academic thesis, it's a collage of images, sounds and ideas mashed together to develop a loose theme or narrative. I mean you can still consider it superficial or shallow on those terms, but if you watch it and judge it strictly as you would a conventional documentary it's kind of like disliking a poem because it doesn't follow the template of a longform narrative work like a novel.

TomViolence posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY7B2-Wqj6g Curtis presents himself as a journalist, and his documentaries are presented as journalism. Therefore, it is fair to judge his work by those standards. His work would also fail if judged by the standards of philosophy. If it is to be judged by the standards of high art, it should be offered as such, otherwise it is misleading, and Curtis himself just another purveyor of nightmares. His are just nightmares of the anti-establishment left. edit: since we now live in a post-Trump, post-truth world I started watching HyperNormalisation. At the 30 minute mark Curtis repeats the long discredited Reagan era agitprop that Iran used human waves of children to clear minefields ahead of advancing tanks. gently caress-off Curtis do some real research for once. Maybe if you were a journalist instead of an artiste you wouldn't make these mistakes. Squalid fucked around with this message at 04:56 on Nov 21, 2016 |
