No, but there are definitely some similarities. The drumbeat is close, the singing style is close, the structure of the song is close. It might even be in the same key. But it's too fast, there's too much business going on, and the singer in the mystery song is more mature. It also needs to be more danceable. I once again point to "Sucks To Be You" by Prozzäk, which has quite a few of the mystery song's elements, except it's not a straight dance club song (the rock rhythm guitar being a big tipoff for that), nor are there any strong vocal effects.

Not even close. Clean guitar, whiny singer, not danceable. I think we can all agree this has gone on too long. Let's have one final push, then scrap the search. Here's a summary of all the song's elements: Heard fairly often in Canada until about a decade ago. Bland aside from an easily recognizable, catchy chorus with a melody somewhere inbetween Truck Got Stuck and Istanbul. Polished production, pop influence, with a somewhat danceable beat, but not complex or saccharine. One mature, unemotional, unremarkable male singer, with no strong vocal effects. Lightly distorted rock rhythm guitar - no lead guitar, clean guitar, or acoustic guitar. Moves along nicely, but not too fast. Slightly upbeat. No rap or horn section. Songs with similar elements: Catchiness - Stacy's Mom by Fountains Of Wayne Production - Some Kind Of Wonderful by Sky Singing style - In the general area of Sucks To Be You by Prozzäk and Where It's At by Beck. Guitar - Paralyzer by Finger Eleven, but less distorted, and not as loud. General vibe - Halfway between Pinch Me by Barenaked Ladies and Big Sugar - Diggin' A Hole. Original post for context. Feel free to ask for clarification of any potential contradictions.

Need a hand identifying where a melody I've had in my head lately comes from. It's definitely this late-1960s, Summer of Love psychedelic thing, and the bit that's stuck in my head feels like it should be from the chorus. It's a chorus of voices all singing this long, sustained note (I can't even remember what the word is), then two more to create a tri-tone. Melodically, it is sort of like the chorus from "I'm A Man" by the Spencer Davis Group, but I'm pretty sure it's an American band.

It's weird how that song reminds me of Zombies - Time of the Season, but that's probably not it.

No, the one I'm thinking of would be more uptempo than "Time of the Season". Closer to "I'm A Man", really.

Might be a bit too obvious, but maaaybe Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love? End of the chorus kinda hangs on the note, has some harmonies in there, right era, pretty uptempo, American band... My other thought was Sunshine of Your Love but I'm even less confident of that

My wild stab would be either Aquarius or Let the Sunshine in by Fifth Dimension.

It's not any of those but "Let the Sunshine In" sounds closest. I've thought a bit more and think I was wrong about the tri-tone. I think the end of the chorus hangs on a long note (the word might be "love", or in this case, "looooooooooove") then repeats the word a semitone lower then goes back up to the original word (so pretty far from being a tri-tone ).

There's a song in GTA 5 that I cannot find for the life of me that I heard playing in one of the shops at one point. All I know for it is that it's got a moderate pop/electronic vibe to it, has short bursts of what sounds like bass pulses / waves, it has a male singer that sings in a relatively medium to high pitched tone with what sounds like reverb added to the voice in english. It's not Neon Indian's 'Polish Girl' or Hot Chip's 'Flutes', nor is it Mike Posner's 'Cooler than me'. If I could add a pattern on how the music would go it'd probably be like (Music/Bass/Wave) - (Pause w/ backing music) - (Singing for like 5 seconds) - (Music/Bass/Wave) - (Repeat) It's not on the Hip-hop stations, the Spanish Station and shouldn't be on the talk stations. I would love anyone who found this song for me though, please and thank you so much to those who try to help. Edit: If I can add in, the bass pulses have a very heavy sound to them, very similar to the opening pulses in this song by the weeknd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzTuBuRdAyA

Turned on the radio today and by pure coincidence heard the song I was asking about up-thread. As it happens, I was completely off the mark in my description of it. It was actually "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Brothers.

I know the song, I'm trying to find a particular version. It is "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. In the regular version, he says, "You really think you're in control? Well?". I heard a version, probably a live version, where he changed that to, "You really think you're in control? gently caress no!". Anybody know what version that was? I listened to some live versions where it isn't exactly clear what he says after "in control", but the version I'm thinking of he clearly says, "gently caress no".

I've had a seriously nasty earworm the last two weeks from the songs I hear at work. I don't know what to stay other than it's a pop song likely from the last 4 years. It starts with a boring sad piano and the chorus sounds like the chick singing is saying "keep US, keep US, keep US, together". It's not a cover of "Love will keep us together" or "the Difference Between Us" and that's all I can remember of the song because I found that part so goddamn annoying.

I've had something go around in my head since yesterday and I can't figure it out. I think it's a relatively well-known modern song from the same sphere of influence as Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes or even Coldplay. Folksy guitar chords, simply structured. I can't remember any lyrics at all, just the singing melody, which goes something like this: https://clyp.it/qprhsjxi I don't think I have the key or tempo entirely right. As far as I know that repeats pretty much throughout, although I think this bit may even be a minor deviation from the regular melody towards the end. No lyrics that I can remember reliably. I do know this much, I don't even particularly like the song. Can't imagine where I picked it up either. Just drives me nuts that I can't remember more.

Nope, turns out it actually is the New Order one and I'm just really bad at remembering arrangements/hearing circumstances. I bet I caught it on one of my extended youtube sessions. Thanks, that's a tiny load off my mind! Weird how music perception works: now that I no longer remember it as a modern folky thing, I actually do quite like it.

For instance, you can find a couple of people in the comments of this video claiming that's the name (and one person firmly insisting it's not): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9MmuhAnFmg I'd guess that, given it's being used in a Youtube trailer for luxury condos in Florida, it's probably royalty free music.

Not so much "Help me identify a song" as "Help me work out how to play a song" - probably not appropriate to the thread but I thought it might be worth a shot. I'm a big Ray Charles fan, but the one album I've never been able to find all the tracks for (either legally or otherwise - the ones I could download fair and square, I have) is his 1965 album Together Again a.k.a. Country and Western Meets Rhythm and Blues. I have managed to find it here on Spotify, but the songs don't play at all. I've never really used Spotify, so can anyone tell me whether it's because I'm in the wrong country and it's got a region lock on it? (I'm in the UK.) It doesn't seem like there'd be copyright claims on Ray Charles's music, since most of what he recorded seems to be on there.

Someone help me before I am driven insane. I'm trying to track down a song I've heard plenty of times before playing on TV and radio. I guess you'd call it classic rock. If I had to pick when it was from I'd say most likely from the late 70's - early 80's but it could be very off either way. The song starts with an electric organ solo that repeats once before getting into the song proper with drums, guitar, lyrics etc and has a solo male vocalist with a very slightly raspy voice (I don't think they're old, it's just how they sing). Playing around with a virtual piano I was able to get this vague memory of the beginning organ bit, although it's almost certainly wrong in parts it at least gets the gist across. I'd guess the song plays at around 130bpm: |A . . . | E . . A | E A E . | D . C . | G . . . | D . . G | D G D . | C . B .| (repeat once) And finally, there's a pause at the last line of each verse where the male solo singer sings three or four words without the band before it kicks back up again, with the organ playing the intro refrain above alongside them.
