This is a Good Article and it brings up a point that's made many times in the past where these people are so slammed and broken that they're honestly counting on the end of civilization to get a second chance at life. That's horrible and nobody should feel this way.

That said, I want to help but at the same time have no idea how. People in PA lament the loss of the coal industry and want it back, but that's as unrealistic as asking for the government to heavily subsidize the horse-and-buggy industry to compete with modern cars. Humanity has found better solutions, and we can't just tell the entirety of society to push back and go back to the "good ole days" when we have poo poo like climate change and other horrible things nipping at our heels. When we invent electric cars that replace gasoline engines, do we owe it to society to keep gas production high to keep Texas afloat? What about the people in Florida who will soon find their houses under water from climate change brought on by oil and gas usage? Do I owe it to them to rebuild the coastline after that?

I like these articles because it reminds me of how bad people have it, but at the same time I have yet to read an answer beyond the vague "bring jobs back". I want to bring jobs back, we, as a society, need a solution as to how.

Yes that's why it is weak and the only people left are sleepy ideologoues who are focused on history not the future. But sadly there isn't better recourse than to stop trying to win fights we lost before and focus on new ways and means to fight.

A simple example is socialism. We need a newer and better ideation of the underlying tenants that is rooted in modern communication and societies. I'm not just objecting to the term from a branding sense, but from a sorta dialectic sense. We need to be able to believe we can do better than socialism and introspect as to way many on the left are hesitant to believe so.

Well, nothing is perfect, and if we can improve socialism and then put a new coat of paint on it to make it that much more difficult for people to use the baggage of its ancestral ideologies against it, it would likely help a bit.

Because that's what it means to be a Leftist or a Progressive, to believe we can always do better and there is always a better world to be had.

Consider it a belief in a "Prime's Proof" of utopia limited societies. If there was a "left enough" society then leftism would be wrong in that society, since that's nonaximatic :v:, there must always be another leftist society out there.

These people want jobs because they believe the only means of getting income is a job.

If we had some kind of UBI or something akin to Britain's dole - a transfer of wealth from those who have and are making money to those who are not, by whatever name - then they wouldn't want or need a job.

We used to have a much stronger social safety net. If we still did, these people would be much better off and way less angry. Not all of them, but enough to make some kind of tangible differenced.

But, it's too bad the DNC can't seem to market public assistance to the public, probably because they are paid by their donors not to.

Yeah, I know, well, these people "voted against their interests, time and again." Well, they do so because the rich fucks that show up on TV - politicians and otherwise - go along with the grift that it's immigrants, welfare queens, and so on, that are the reason they don't have any money. Liberals think people are way, way more educated than they are, until their girl loses and then they want to euthanize half the population.
