Totally serious. Proxy all day every day, try out units you don't own, try out units without models. If you're feeling super polite, you can take a picture of your model, attach it to your courtesy list and label it with whatever it's representing.

Well, I want some kind of cool looking model I could use in place of the crappy looking official one. A picture or blank silhouette doesn't help.

I prefer to avoid proxies as much as possible. I know proxies are completely allowed in this game, and it isn't completely avoidable in Infinity because of the limits of model + weapon availability, but as much as possible I want models that are distinguishable from each other. Sure, I could use the iguana model and say "In this list it is an Iguana, in this other list it is a Szalamandra" and that would be OK by the rules, but I'm not personally 100% comfortable doing that. Maybe that will change over time. There is a decent chance I will find it impractical to make such a thing in the first place.

Tohaa are a pretty loving strong army. Fire only really has any effect on models with 2-wound symbiont armour profiles - Rasail, Ectros and Gorgos are all I can think of. And the effect does not transfer to the non-symbiont profile. So since every Tohaa player who wants to win takes 4 symbiomates, and they are unlikely to need more than 4 to cover those model types, all the cheap extra wounds are pure gravy. (or pure loving bullshit, when I have to play against them)

I actually really dislike the infinity army builder app, especially how bad it is to use to try to use to actually play using it as your source of info for your models, and find that warroom is superior in many ways.

This is kind of my point right here the army building part of the app is superior in every way.The app comes in at a measly 29mg is far lower on battery consumption and isn't bloated with unnecessary images or other crap. And links to the mostly excellent Infinity Wiki. It is smooth has useful functions and is still in early access, it is also free. War Rooms only claim to fame is the fact it has the battle option and I would never ever use it for such. Preferring the cards that come with Warmachine for a variety of reasons. The primary one being that my cards can't lose me a game due to bugging out and crashing, which happens frequently on my device. The infinity app is better on almost every single functional measure. I am unsure which points are superior between the two especially since considering if you used the previous version of War Room you were required to pay for it again with the new version, which is a major sticking point for me. The fact that the free app functions better for 90% of what I use it for is infuriating.

War Room is a better phone app, but that's pretty much all I'll give it. It's a much worse army builder and about equal on access to stats and rules. And I personally use it on four different devices, whereas War Room doesn't even run on my iPad.

But it costs money whereas Army is free. 50 points to Corvus Belli.

One thing I much prefer in warroom, which is actually worse now because the dying pdf thing but they are supposedly changing that back, is that all the rules are in the app and doesn't require it to load the wiki(which it sometimes has bad links to).

The biggest complaint for me with the infinity app is that the information for any given model is so spread around. If I have a model in my list I don't want to have to go to 2-3 different screens to view what it does. This is something that is obviously trying to cram the web apps behaviors into a phone app rather piss poorly.

Well, I don't blame Army for that because that's just an Infinity problem. I would love it if model entries had all their rules, but that's not true whether you're looking at a PDF, a printout, or a list builder.

True, but it could at least be a bit more concise. Just things like having the model stats on the army list screen would be nice. Sure, you can't really have everything like the hacking programs on the screen, but I can think of ways your could display the weapon stats and the model stats on the same screen.

Had a great game with this list; didn't quite play out how I wanted it to (using paramedics to get models back on their feet, people kept taking multiple wounds) and I realised I need more orders to get my paramedics up close enough to do the healing, they only had 3 to work with.

Had a fantastic dice roll at one point: Wally was on SUPP fire, and AROed against a TO sniper prone on a ledge above him, and through a saturation zone. The MOD ended up being -12, so Wally needed 1s to hit. I rolled a 4 and a 1 so woo hoo crit and an unconscious sniper was the result, which swung the battle in my favour and I ended up winning the game.

This was the first time I've played with Wally not the lieutenant, and I really enjoyed it, letting my highlanders loose to just kill and be killed and it worked quite well. It was nice to let Wally off the chain too, not having to worry about loss of lieutenant. I did miss having his lieutenant order every turn and I usually use it to do a co-ordinated attack SUPP fire.

Army 6 Beta works really, really well on Android Tablets.
It displays all three screens at once so you can track your causalities, orders, and models stats. Then push one button to toggle between order count and either weapons or hacking charts. Really elegant and works well for me as my FLGS gaming area is a concrete basement with no WiFi.

I have a PDF copy of the rule sets on my tablet, which we sometimes use. But it hasn't fully replaced having a physical copy of the rule book, or a print out of my lists for tournaments. Army 6 Beta doesn't produce courtesy lists, so you still need that if you're playing something more competitive than a casual game.

Haven't had time to play any games for about a month for a variety of reasons. So when I do get a spare moment I'm usually painting, as such my USAriadna is nearly finished(!), and I'm painting up the Bootleg O-12 High Commissioner as a Christmas present for buddy. He doesn't have an HVT for his Military Orders, and I figure that would be a good one for any variety of Pan-O or his Onyx to use.

I have had a good weekend for Infinity, playing in a tournament yesterday (Lost the first game narrowly, then won twice, finishing 4th) which was a bit odd. As the Infinity system is down at the moment, the organizers, who did a good job overall, matched people up rather haphazardly, so the top 3 finishers, who all won 3/3 games, never faced each other! Bit of a frustrating day in results, my loss was in Frontline against Tohaa, and was very much in the balance until late turn 2/turn 3, his last plays succeeded efficiently, and my last plays failed against single AROs. It happens sometimes. Then I played a very interesting game, Decapitation against NCA, where my opponent used TO Camo in an unusual way, popping up from hidden deployment for unexpected AROs. He didn't have the orders though, after I killed his main long-range pieces in turn 1. Finally, Biotechvore, a completely different mission to the usual stuff, which I was really looking forward to, was just completely spoiled. I had made a special army list and was all ready to play a good hard, bloody game, but my opponent was completely clueless, failed to do anything to stop me getting into the middle, then failed to break out of her own DZ at all, then was a poor sport about the whole thing. Not a fun way to finish.

But, had another great game on my home set-up. My buddy who is learning the game is starting to get a handle on fireteams now, and it has really opened my eyes up, teaching him, just how restrictive they are in the active turn. You have to work and think quite hard to get them moving in and around cover while still saving orders, and keeping the leader the only visible combatant. I begin to see why I have habitually used an Alguacil link over the more expensive options, and used it mostly for AROs until the endgame, when the table is less populated.

No worries mate. What he did was deploy only 7 models in the initial deployment (he was going second). 2 Auxilia, 2 TR bots, a doctor, a fusilier lt, and an Aquila HMG as his reserve. I had the Intruder HMG as my reserve, and using smoke to single out models, I poured orders into him, taking the Aquila and then both TR bots out. Then, during my later (but still first turn of the game) orders, he revealed a Swiss Guard hacker and a Hexa sniper to catch out my advancing warbands, killing 2. While I was dealing with those in the second turn, he revealed a Hexa specialist in ARO as well. Thinking about this, here's his list (reconstructed from memory, but I guarantee it's accurate:

The way he did this gave me a few doubts in deployment and wrong-footed me a bit, but the lack of orders and his first turn losses made sure I never really felt on the ropes either. In fact, I dealt with the Swiss guard and Hexas easily enough; if a pair of lucky crits hadn't bagged first my Intruder, then a Tsyklon Sputnik, the Hexa sniper could also have gone down. That second one was my fault actually - I should have gone for his exposed, far forward, in the open Auxilia, but I wanted the glory of killing the sniper. So on his last turn his now-the-Lt Auxilia (the only survivor on his side, except for his Hexa sniper) went on the offensive, killing 3 models in as many orders and surviving! Made it 9-2 rather than 10-0, but actually I took very heavy casualties that game, ending with only a specialist and a few cheap models left.

Stealth grants something like that. I don't remember if you can attack unopposed or if it's just for doing stuff like Move-Move into CC without ARO but you'd get FTFed if you attacked.

My friend and I recently got into this game with the starter set and I was wondering if anyone makes bases that help facilitate the front-facing FOV better than just marking the sides of the base. I'd rather incorporate this necessity using the base so it feels more natural. I have PanO and I know I can probably just put them all on asphalt and use road markings to indicate the halfway point, but was hoping if premade bases or little accessories you can place on the base existed that did so. At least some of these starter figures look like they have books under their feet, so if nothing else I can probably use those as marking guides and have everyone based inside a library. :haw:

I would probably stick to missions with kill/area control objectives. The problem with running missions at that points level is that you have so few orders, but the board is the same size. So if you focus on grabbing objectives you'll do basically nothing else.

You can't CC from out of LoF. If you move into base-to-base contact from out of LoF, all your opponent can do is Dodge or Close Combat, but as soon as you hit base-to-base, your LoF becomes 360 and limited to models in base-to-base with you.

Quadrant Control, Decapitation, Frontline, Supplies, Supremacy, and Annihilation are all easy to do at lower points. Something like Beacon Race would be nigh impossible at 150 pts due to a lack of orders. I would also suggest playing at 200 pts since it lets you build more fleshed out lists, while still not being overwhelming. That is the points level that we have been playing locally at our events and leagues.

I did an 8-mission slow grow earlier this year (using its2015 rules), I think having at least the first two as 3-round killing makes sense.

Start with 150pts with no retreat/lieutenant/advances rules so you can learn the basic mechanics, then introduce the missing things at 200pts without having to worry about objectives as well. Them bring in specialists at round 3.

Starting with all the rules is pretty harsh on someone new, and dumping command tokens, hacking, specialists, and objectives on game 2 at once would be pretty full on.
