The gadget weighs about 3 pounds and stands 9.5 inches tall. It is circular at the top and square on the bottom, and available in white, red, black, and purple.

Still, the company claims the DingDong understands roughly 95 percent of the population.

So far, customers primarily use the DingDong for music,

I am not an economist, so I cannot comment...

Recent polls (that I am too lazy to find, but everything is on r/india) say that the majority of those polled still agree it is a good thing for the country. It's causing a huge mess, which nobody can deny, but most people are doing their best to accept that it is only for a little while and the country will be better for it later. Those sick of the corruption or having to deal with it still feel good about it in a schadenfreude kind of way. Had Modi announced months ago that this change was coming, all of that money would have been moved in other ways and the whole thing would have been useless. It's a lot of headaches, some people are protesting, but I think a lot of people will agree that once this phase of the change is over that things will be different... at least for a while.

I was in Delhi for maybe 2 days (internet wasn't too bad but most free wifi wants to send an SMS and China Unicom was being a bitch and not letting me roam even though I unlocked it). I was in the Andamans for the rest of the time, so that's why internet and mobile coverage got bad and we also had brownouts daily. On the plus side the prices were maybe 30% of Shanghai prices so the early days where there was a 4k rupee conversion limit at banks was generally enough to last a few days, though the following week the limit was changed to 2k and later 2.5k.

Being in a laid back Indian Hawaii meant a lot less rioting, but I saw some seriously pissed people in Delhi, including foreigners. At Taj Mahal I saw a group of Chinese tourists get hosed and have a blowout with their driver/guide, as the admission fee was 500/1000 rupees per person and they only had the 500/1000 notes, meaning that the 3 hours 1-way trip was for nothing unless maybe some good samaritan could swap notes with them.

That newspaper I took a photo of included a great story about how hosed the ATMs are from this change. All of the ATMs need to be recalibrated to only handle the valid (and new) notes, meaning a technician needs to physically go to the machine to fix it. The article explains how this would not only be a hassle for the rural areas, but that logistically this is loving hard because the process involves coordinating five people (techs, transport, bank employees) to service the ATM, and there are very few qualified people. There are also reports of banks nationwide having problems storing all of the invalid cash pending govt collection after everyone running on the banks, and in rural areas many banks still haven't been issued the new notes (new 500/2000)

but at least i got to chew on sugar and fennel seeds after every meal and have people say "excuse me" in the rudest way possible when they want to get around me

30% of Shanghai still seems high, but it's the islands. How were they? I have never gone, because tourist places + India seems like pure scammery, even if it looks great.
I have some friends that left right after the announcement and were really glad to not be there during that time. Since there was no way to know beforehand, RIP to everyone visiting the country.

Doing anything in India is a headache and it will probably be a long time before some places fix their stuff, even after the official period is over. It will be interesting to see how things are as time goes on. Hopefully it's all taken care of by next year when I go back to live.

So the china sports thing I find funny.

Its good to set a goal and try to raise your profile.

But it takes years to build the talent pool to really compete.

I've often said the only way America will ever win a world cup would be to ban all football and baseball thus deverting all the talent to soccer.

Thus I wonder how the propaganda machine runs when reality directly conflicts with the statements or if you just say we are going to spend resources and build a competitive team.

It's an absolutely amazing opportunity that pays *very* well and is pretty life-changing. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you his way :) here's his post:
"If you have a 4 year degree, zero-some teaching experience, and want to experience living in a new country, let me know!
My co worker is quitting in february of next year, and ive been asked to help find a replacement. I work at a cultural center (a sort of secondary school) and teach english to kids and adults. Ages range from around 8-15 for kids. You have a lot of flexibility to make your own syllabus, though the center has established book material for each class to use.
The job is a 30hr work week and pay is 2.1 million won (around $1900). After taxes and pension you have 1.9 million a month, and you are provided a small apartment for free. Cost of living in korea is also quite cheap, so there is a lot of opportunity to save and pay off student loans.
The only requirement is a 4 year degree, though any other teaching experience is welcome.
Also, for better or worse, youll be working with me and we may be neighbors!
Let me know if youre interested! For anyone who's really serious, I'll be talking directly to the bosses to work on getting you an interview and get the process started."

Not really? Talks about the work week, 30 hours, and then states the pay. Then in the next sentence says you make less than that per month. That's a pretty dishonest way to word it unless you're taxed more than 75% of your pay which is definitely not the case. It's not common to list monthly pay either, and that's clearly what he did but in the least honest way possible.

edit: vvv okay, I am used to see job postings for jobs that aren't teaching ESL.

The most obvious match fixing happened in the 2012 london olympics. Once people started to get caught there was a race to retire before the ban happened as if it would matter.

When it was only among asian teams it was able to work, but as soon as they tried to pay off a danish team they were reported.

A couple Olympics ago China and two other countries purposefully lost a badminton match (and didn't even attempt to disguise it) because losing those matches would result in their next match being against an easier opponent than if they won, so everyone involved got banned. I've never seen a crowd booing badminton before.
