Fojar38 posted:Come to think of it most of DS9's bad episodes are from early on where the writers didn't know what they wanted to do yet so every episode was "whoa a wacky mcguffin is coming through the wormhole!" Babylon 5's first season has that problem too. The fifth one too, a bit, because they kept getting told there wouldn't be a fifth season so a lot of it is padding for time.

Sanctuary is stupid and that dumb race is stupid and the Bajorans did nothing wrong (in this episode at least. Maybe only in this episode ever). Just like the Maquis, it could have made sense in a different setting, but in post scarcity star trek it's just absurd. "We're farmers and all we want is a place to farm, please let millions of us come live on your planet" "Uh, you know there are literally thousands of worlds right?" "No! Your planet is extra special because superstition. Asking us to go to an equally good planet somewhere else is cruel!" "Look, we're going to hook you up with another great planet. Enjoy your new life that will be identical to what you would have had here." "Stop oppressing us!"

# ? Nov 24, 2016 00:12 |

it wasn't even "an equally good planet." It was a planet that was better in every way shape or form but the interpretation of that religious text by that one lady meant that it HAD to be the planet still recovering from a brutal occupation with most of its arable land gone and in a state of constant humanitarian crisis

the prophecy was like "the holy planet will be one beyond the eye of the universe it will be a planet of sorrow where we'll plant seeds of joy" like that is vague as gently caress. maybe the federation should have found a shittier planet for them so it would fit the prophecy better

# ? Nov 24, 2016 00:18 |

The problem is they were making GBS threads on the Skreaans whole "buh-buh buh but, our prophecy' thing. They had no scientific basis that one additional famine would destabilize a planet already in famine. They just didn't want a separate set of fables loving up their dalrock and pa filled land of starvation and nonsense. Besides, they day after Bajor joined the federation you'd have wealthy Bolians and post-currency Vulcans moving into every single street and rocky outcrop claiming space for 4th and 5th vacation homes. It was ignorant of them to try and keep a racially pure planet. Better to have the gangbang farmers who can do all the labor for you before the industrial replicators arrive.

it's true that the bajorans don't really have room to talk wrt stupid space prophecies but iirc their concern was less about the integrity of bajor itself and more to do with the skreaans would fuckin die if the bajorans let them settle there and it would be the bajorans fault for letting them

You know, Luxwana did nothing wrong by trying to jump the occasional starfleet officer or two. Getting strange left and right is one of the guiding principles of star trek.

I have just been informed that the holographic doctor has a human wife and offspring. Can someone explain to me how this works? How does a being composed of hard light have the necessary biological functions to reproduce? Because AFAIK light doesn't have sperm (which is required to impregnate human women.) And no just saying "future tech" or "space magic" is not enough. How was it explained in the show?

Solutions to the Doctor having kids: Adoption, Dr. Zimmerman having some frozen sperm left behind just for the Doctor to use, the Doctor is actually in a cloned, brainless body of Dr. Zimmerman and just lives as a holographic brain that connects to the nervous system and makes it move around when he wants to do real biological stuff.

The doctor, using his 24th century biomedical knowledge, simply engineers and then brews his own sperm from a vat of vinegar and it successfully impregnates someone.
