Kayak is true
Leave the Alamo Bowl a Big XII bowl. Bowl games should be in the footprint of at least one conference that is represented at the game. True neutral site games such because neither conference is close enough to send a good crowd to the game.

We must take care of our friends from the Big Ten.

Move the Liberty Bowl to Philadelphia.

Move the Independence Bowl to Boston.

Bring back Culligan as a sponsor and put the Holiday Bowl in Flint, Michigan.

ACC

Louisville (7-1, 9-2) UK (7-1, 10-2)
Florida State (5-3, 8-3) UF (5-3, 9-3)
Wake Forest (3-4, 6-5) BC (4-4, 7-5)
NC State (3-5, 6-6) BOWL
Syracuse (2-5, 4-7) @PITT (2-6, 4-8)
Boston College (1-6, 5-6) @WAKE (1-7, 5-7)
COASTAL
pre:
Virginia Tech (5-2, 8-3) UVA, CLEM (6-2, 9-4)
North Carolina (5-3, 8-4) BOWL
Miami (4-3, 7-4) DUKE (5-3, 8-4)
Pitt (4-3, 7-4) CUSE (5-3, 8-4)
Georgia Tech (4-4, 7-4) @UGA (4-4, 7-5)
Duke (1-6, 4-7) @MIA (1-7, 4-8)
Virginia (1-6, 2-9) @VT (1-7, 2-10)
NC State pulls off the upset over UNC and gets in, which has the domino effect of giving Virginia Tech the Coastal and Clemson their ACCCG opponent. Everyone else goes tomorrow, with only the drama....okay "drama" of BC needing a win over Wake to somehow get to a bowl game.

pre:
Notre Dame (4-7) @USC (4-8)
Notre Dame is 4-7.

ACC Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 10: Clemson, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina, Miami, Pitt, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, NC State

Nebraska (6-3, 9-3) BOWL
Minnesota (5-3, 8-3) @WIS (5-4, 8-4)
Iowa (6-3, 8-4) BOWL
Northwestern (4-4, 5-6) ILL (5-4, 6-6)
Illinois (2-6, 3-8) @NW (2-7, 3-9)
Purdue (1-7, 3-8) @IND (1-8, 3-9)
Iowa knocks off Nebraska, giving the West to Wisconsin and earning Kirk Ferentz another extension. As of right now I'm putting the W in Wisconsin's column for the B1GCG since I think Ohio State beats Michigan and Penn State beats Sparty, followed by Wisconsin beating Penn State, but I obviously reserve the right to change my mind pending tomorrow's results.

Big Ten Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 10: Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland, Indiana

Big 12

pre:
Oklahoma (8-0, 9-2) OKST (9-0, 10-2)
Oklahoma State (7-1, 9-2) @OK (7-2, 9-3)
West Virginia (5-2, 8-2) @ISU, BAY (7-2, 10-2)
Kansas State (4-3, 6-4) KU, @TCU (5-4, 7-5)
TCU (4-4, 6-5) KSU (5-4, 7-5)
Baylor (3-5, 6-5) @WVU (3-6, 6-6)
Texas (3-6, 5-7) APR
Texas Tech (3-6, 5-7) APR
Iowa State (2-6, 3-8) WVU (2-7, 3-9)
Kansas (1-7, 2-9) @KSU (1-8, 2-10)
God-willing TCU finally puts Charlie Strong out of his misery and he can go somewhere he'll be appreciated, whether it's to another head coaching gig or a nice warm beach somewhere to spend his buyout money. TCU gets in which gives us our six eligible teams; Texas Tech and Texas can come out of the APR pool but I don't think the Red Raiders are that high and I don't anticipate Texas taking a bid, especially if Charlie's finally long gone.

Big 12 Bowl Eligible Teams - 6: Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, TCU, Kansas State, Baylor

PAC-12

USC (7-2, 8-3) ND (7-2, 9-3)
Utah (5-3, 8-3) @COL (5-4, 8-4)
UCLA (2-6, 4-7) @CAL (3-6, 5-7)
Arizona State (2-7, 5-7) APR
Arizona (1-8, 3-9) DONE
Washington wins the Apple Cup, the Pac-12 North, and keeps the conference's playoff hopes alive. The conference does take a hit with Arizona upsetting Arizona State, who complete their annual death spiral on a six-game losing streak, and methinks it's time for Todd Graham to find some other relatives and dream jobs around the country.

LSU runs over A&M, though it may or may not be enough to save DACOACHO, because Joe Alleva is bad at keeping leaks inside. And I loving called Missouri beating bert from the first loving projection I did and it loving came true so loving suck it and as much as I'd like to go on this huge rant it's late and I'm tired, so gently caress bert, gently caress arkansas, gently caress the sec as a staff, conference and as a motherfucking crew, and if you wanna be down with :razorfront:, then gently caress you too.

Well, looks like those rumors got to Houston after all. This allows Tulsa to jump the Cougars and in all probability Memphis will be a more attractive team, as they'll have a head coach and Houston won't.

Good thing Louisiana Tech already clinched the West, because they sure took their foot off the gas. It allows Southern Miss, who had all but played themselves out of a bowl, to now make one, and it probably costs LaTech nothing and gains everyone more money, so, uh, good for them smart play?

Boise falters against Air Force, which gives Wyoming the division and knocks Boise out of the running for the Cotton. I'm not sure who's hosting between Wyoming and San Diego State; I'm assuming Wyoming because if the records are the same they won the H2H, but I could be wrong.

We need four from the APR pool, so come on down Vanderbilt, Boston College, UCLA, and Mississippi State!

Looking at these matchups, New Orleans gonna be loving lit. Boca Raton stumbles into what could be a good deal depending on what Houston team shows up. We get a rematch of last year's Rose in the Holiday, so MV finally gets what he's been wanting, and Liberty is the same matchup as it was the year before, which is what no one wants. We once again can't spell Citrus without "UT", and Black Diamond in the RAB. TCU/A&M might move some tickets in H-Tizzy as well.

This is still wrong. It will always be wrong. Soon it won't matter how wrong it is. I'll do another round after tomorrow's games, a what-if after the poll show on Tuesday, and then we'll let it ride once bowl announces start to trickle out next Saturday.

Boise falters against Air Force, which gives Wyoming the division and knocks Boise out of the running for the Cotton. I'm not sure who's hosting between Wyoming and San Diego State; I'm assuming Wyoming because if the records are the same they won the H2H, but I could be wrong.

The host of the MWCCG is the highest ranking team in the CFP polls. If neither team is ranked, then the host is the highest ranked team in a couple of other aggregate polls.

TCU versus A&M will probably not happen because the SEC really doesn't like putting them against other D1 Texas schools. :(

It would be such a good #narrative game though, between old rivalries, Kenny Hill, etc.

None, they (and Troy if necessary) split the conference title like the good ol' days. As per bowl bids, I imagine that's a discussion among the bowls, conference office, and the schools themselves, which is going to happen regardless.

The good news for the conference is that the three teams who needed a win got one, moving the total number of eligible teams to 10. The bad news is that the disaster scenario of Ohio State over Michigan and Penn State over Sparty happened, meaning that not only do you not have your two best teams in the conference championship, you run the risk of having them left out of the Playoff. Now, the idea that the B1G is going to be left out of the Playoff is asine, and getting two teams in isn't out of the question. But ask anyone from the conference office off the record, and to a man they'll tell you they want Ohio State in there, and Buckeye getting in isn't a guarantee right now. Whether it should be is the billion dollar question.

The slight, slight good news for the conference is that they're tied for the most bowl-eligible teams with 11, and depending on how APR works out they could get to 12. That being said, and now that I'm good and awake, is that the SEC is by far the worst loving conference out of the Power 5, they're probably worse than the American, they're living off the glory of the "!~~*~*~*StReNgTh EvErYwHeRe CoNfEr3nC3**~*~*" reputation from the BCS era, they're only going to have one double-digit win team with everyone else ranging from mediocre to utter dogshit, everyone not named Bama got their rear end beat in non-con, and the idea that the SEC is the best because of how "tough" the conference slate is or because "it just means more" needs to sit back and take a good, hard look at how loving bad this conference is. poo poo, I'm willing to make the argument that Bama only looks good because they're the only good team in this shithole of a conference and are only #1 because they started #1 and because "they Bama Pawwwwwwwwwwwllllllllllllllll" and if we're going to leave out a conference champ, it should be Alabama because the SEC is a goddamn embarrassment. But instead Bama will probably win out and go 15-0 and everyone will continue the false narrative that the SEC is the best, despite the fact that Bama's their only Top 10 team and probably their only Top 25 team by the time the bowl season assbeating takes place. I'm not even shitposting anymore, the SEC sucks and the only thing that's worse than the teams on the field are the fans in the stands.

Here's the funny thing about Navy's situation: bowl bids start going out next Sunday, after the conference championship games. However, Navy's season isn't over until the Army/Navy game the following weekend, and it's entirely possible that WMU loses next weekend and Navy wins, giving Navy the Cotton Bowl bid, and then Army comes in and upsets the Middies. It makes me wonder if the committee will setup an either/or scenario, one where Navy's in the Cotton with a win and someone else is with a loss, or if they say "gently caress it" and Navy's in no matter what. We've never had to deal with this before, so I'm curious to see how this'll play out.

The MWC sure didn't end the year on a strong note. SDSU gets upset by Colorado State, and while it doesn't cost the Aztecs the division it does eliminate any chance the MWC champ goes to the Cotton. Wyoming ends up winning on the second tiebreaker between Boise and New Mexico, and needs to feel fortunate that overall winning percentage wasn't higher in the tiebreaker or else it'd be Boise again. No one knows where the conference championship is going to be played yet, but I'll still take SDSU in said game. Hawai'i gets in the same way Army does, after the 6-6 teams but before the APR pool, and we all know they're just going to bowl at home. Regardless, Rainbows Bitch.

College Football Playoff

pre:
Peach Bowl Dec. 31 Atlanta, Ga. #1 Alabama (SEC Champ) vs. #4 Wisconsin (Big Ten Champ)
Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31 Glendale, Ariz. #2 Clemson (ACC Champ) vs. #3 Ohio State (At-Large)
So the committee has spent the past three years talking out of both sides of its mouth. They want to select the best four teams, but they also highly value conference champions. Well, we now have a clear-cut situation where one of the four best teams in the country is not a conference champ, or even a divisional champ. As much as they've tried to avoid establishing a precedent, whatever they do here will set one: if they take Ohio State it devalues the conference championships, if they leave Ohio State out it sends the message that you're not getting into the Playoff unless you win your conference. Personally, I think Ohio State's been too good to be left out, and as such they become the first At-Large team to get in.

We can agree that Alabama (unfortunately) and Clemson are automatically in if they win their conference championship games, and Bama's probably in regardless because :cuts and pastes previous rant:. That leaves one spot for three conferences: 12-1 Washington, 10-2 Oklahoma, and 11-2 Wisconsin. It's easy to dump Oklahoma because of their non-con struggles, but Washington's non-con was trash as well. I also don't think the committee wants to leave out the Big Ten champ, and as such the B1G becomes the first conference to send two teams to the Playoff. They'll be split up as to not guarantee the Big Ten a spot in the title game, and because an Alabama/Ohio State game in the semis can outshine the championship. Washington howls bloody murder but it falls on deaf ears, but it does get the ball rolling on an eight-team playoff that guarantees all the conference champs a spot.

New Year's Bowls
pre:
Sugar Bowl Jan. 2 New Orleans, La. Big 12 vs SEC Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ) vs. Auburn (SEC Rep)
Rose Bowl Jan. 2 Pasadena, Calif. Big Ten vs Pac-12 Michigan (Big Ten Rep) vs. Washington (Pac-12 Champ)
Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 Arlington, Tex. Group of 5 vs. At-large Western Michigan (Group of 5 Rep) vs. USC (At-Large)
Orange Bowl Dec. 30 Miami, Fla. ACC vs. Big Ten/SEC/ND Florida State (ACC Rep) vs. Penn State (Big Ten Rep)
So nearly everything changes here. Oklahoma wins the Big 12 and heads to the Sugar, where they should face someone other than an SEC team because they don't deserve the spot, but Auburn stays ahead of Florida and LSU to claim the berth. Washington goes to the Rose where they face Michigan, who pushes Penn State to the Orange. There, Louisville's two game losing streak drops the Cards below the Noles, even though FSU technically can't jump Louisville with the ACC's bowl-selection rules, so :wom: there. The committee can't dump an undefeated WMU out of the Cotton in favor of Navy so the Boatrowers paddle their way south, where USC ends up ranked above Colorado and gets the last At-Large spot (and hopes that they'll move more tickets than the Buffs :shh:).

We only need to dip twice into the APR pool, so North Texas and Mississippi State are the "smart" teams.

Great news for Iowa fans, you're not facing Stanford in the Holiday anymore! We're still looking at Black Diamond in the RAB, we end up with a bert/TCU runback in the Texas, and Louisville/LSU in the Citrus becomes a matchup of "will Lamar and Leonard actually play", which kinda affects how many shits I give about this game.

This is still wrong. It will always be wrong. Soon it won't matter how wrong it is. I'll do a what-if after the poll show on Tuesday, and then we'll let it ride once bowl announces start to trickle out next Saturday.

I thought I read that Texas is not allowed to decline a bowl invite per B12 rules, in the unlikely event that we get one as an APR team. That could get interesting, since we have no coaching staff. The extra practices sound nice except there's not really anyone to run them, and Herman presumably wants to spend this time hiring assistants and recruiting. But if we did play in a bowl and D'Onta Foreman matched his per-game average for this season, he would break Ricky Williams' record for single-season rushing yards at Texas and move up to #6 on the all-time list. #5 if he could get 7 yards above his average.

I kinda wanted to do a few of these little write ups I had brewing in my head so why not start with this. Let me know if I should add anything to these.

Sad Bowl Spotlight: The Dollar General Bowl

At a Glance: Formerly the GMAC bowl, then the GoDaddy Bowl, in the BCS days this was the last game before the national championship. It's typically known for being a matchup of MAC/Fun Belt teams with all offense and purely optional defense, and usually has okay ratings because people realize they're quickly running out of college football.

Most memorable game: 2001 GMAC Bowl. Byron Leftwich leads Marshall back from 21 down to win 64-61 in OT. At the time it was the highest scoring bowl game in history.

Notable Events: the Tuesday before the game, both teams are hitting up a bowling alley!

Dollar General Bowl Website posted:

The competition heats up as the bowl teams head to Camellia Bowling lanes. The two visiting football teams will take off the cleats and grab the bowling shoes as they compete for the Dollar General Bowl Bowling Championship Trophy! The night of fun, friendly competition, and entertainment will end with the presentation of the Dollar General Bowl Bowling Championship trophy.

Payout: 750k

Venue:: Ladd-Peebles Stadium. It seats only about 30k and looks more like a set from Friday Night Tykes than an actual college football field.

Player Gifts: they haven't said but this was last year:

quote:

Timely Watch Co. watch; Sol Republic Punk speakers (ed note: I have these and they're rear end); 32-quart Lit cooler; Wilson official souvenir game ball

Since it's now sponsored by Dollar General I'm hoping they just get a Dollar General shopping spree. Enjoy all the cough medicine and AA batteries you could ever want!

Projection: Ohio vs Troy

Old Dominion is our first non-Navy/BYU team locked into a bowl, as for the Monarchs first ever bowl game they're being deported to our most glorious Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. I'm expecting great things for them now.

Also some heavy rumblings about Kentucky going Belking, but nothing official.

We want the ball & We're going to score
I'm not a fan of the bowl rotations when the Peach/Fiesta are the semis since all the others seem to have nearly full conference commitments and those 2 are 2 of the 3 with just "at large" spots available. This year if a 2nd Pac12 team were to make the NY6 (non CFP) then the only option is the Cotton Bowl. As result, looking at the Pac12 championship game. Colorado is likely going to the Rose Bowl win or lose. Washington wins should get them into the CFP but a Washington loss would assumingly move them to the Cotton as I doubt they drop out of the top 10 (but possible). That would then be a 2nd year in a row for Washington to go to Dallas to play a non-Power conference team (last year they played in the Heart of Dallas bowl against Southern Miss).

Its hard to say 100%, I mean USC is ranked right below them in the AP and 2 spots below them in the coaches. If Colorado gets blown out, I could see them falling below USC

Also, there really needs to be a Pac/SEC bowl. Its dumb that they basically never play

Bowls wouldn't touch that matchup due to attendance. Putting it on the east coast means PAC12 fans wouldn't travel and vice versa. Putting it in a heartland state kills travel on both ends because it's still a sizable distance and they're called flyover states for a reason

You might have a shot at turning the Sun, a P12/ACC matchup, into a P12/SEC one, but I can't think of a destination outside of Texas that would have a chance at be worth a drat.

At Tom Herman's press conference with UT brass, he said that if Texas gets invited to a bowl game, they'll consider going. I'm guessing it all depends on where they would go, and considering it would either be DFW or central Florida, that's a built-in recruiting trip right there.

I was curious about this, didn't see anyone saying definitely this is or isn't true; this from Burnt Orange Nation including a skim of the comments just makes it sound like it's the school's decision like anywhere else, and the school sounds like it's giving the choice to Tom Herman.

This is very cool (might want to add the city to your template). And Mobile's a perfectly fun place to kill a day or two -- I wouldn't call it a vacation destination but if your team's in this one, you wanna get drunk somewhere with relatively liberal public consumption laws downtown in a place that probably isn't colder than where you are, go for it.

Eastern Michigan is the third directional Michigan to go to the Bahamas in three years. Hell yeah.

Also, re: Navy, I believe the committee is forced to hold off on the Cotton Bowl bid if Western loses and see the result of Army-Navy, but even if the Middies lose, which potential conference champion jumps them? San Diego State? It's not going to be Ohio or anyone from the Sun Belt or CUSA.

Western's already a 19 point favorite over Ohio, but yeah if by some miracle they lose, seems pretty locked that Navy's gonna be the G5 rep.

Bad Bowl Game Spotlight: The Camping World Independence Bowl

At a Glance: Sponsored historically by such venerable entrepreneurs as Advocare's V100 line of fake supplements and POULAN WEEDEATERS, The Camping World Independence Bowl is widely regarded as a symbol of how dreadful and boring bowl season can be (yet another loving ACC/SEC tie in), yet also how hilarious their sponsorships can be. In 2014 it was sponsored by loving DUCK COMMANDER, and the Duck Dynasty dudes plugged it on their show and did all the pregame poo poo. In 2005 a chain of "gentlemen's clubs" called Deja Vu offered to sponsor the game and were for some unfathomable reason denied. Most importantly, it has perhaps the worst venue of all bowl games...

Host city: Shreveport, Louisiana. This place is a loving DUMP. The city has a massive crystal meth problem, average income is like 20 bucks, there is nothing to do (besides meth), there are more evangelical churches than people to use them, and the most common store chain is a place I've never been to called THIS SPACE FOR RENT. Some more fun facts: Sam Cooke was arrested in Shreveport in '63 for trying to stay at a whites-only Holiday Inn, leading to "A Change is Gonna Come" and implementation of the Civil Rights Act. It's also one of the last holdouts of riverboat gambling. Forums poster HOTLANTA MAN attended the 2009 Independence Bowl between Georgia and Texas A&M, was propositioned for crystal meth twice, had a homeless man offer to suck his dick for a ride to the airport, and had his car broken into. NOTHING WAS STOLEN.

Most memorable game:

wikipedia posted:

the 2000 "snow bowl" game between Texas A&M and Mississippi State. The game was originally publicized as a reunion game, since Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill had served as A&M's coach for six seasons in the 1980s and led them to three conference titles. However, the weather quickly dominated the storyline as a rare and significant snowstorm hit Shreveport. In the midst of the snow, Mississippi State rallied to an overtime win over A&M.

Seriously go watch a highlight, it was a loving blizzard.

Also, last year was Frank Beamer's last game

Notable Events: Hooboy, we've got some doozies:

Friday, December 23rd: a "Big Game Show" Arrival party. Both teams will partake in Game Show styled events that remind me of when your substitute civics teacher in high school made you group off and play Jeopardy

Saturday, December 24th: a prayer breakfast sponsored by the loving Shreveport FCA

Noon of gameday: a Coca-cola fanfest which features "inflatable games and more"

Welcome to Shreveport, here's a ballpit

Payout: 1.1 million

Venue: Independence Stadium

It mostly hosts high school games and the South endzone borders I-20 so if you're sitting over there enjoy listening to the dulcet sounds of '94 civics backfiring instead of a football game

I also like the no-effort "Welcome to Shreveport" banner

Player Gifts: 2015's was a "Gift suite; Timely Watch Co. watch; New Era knit skull cap; commemorative football". So basically you just got a PS4 from the gift suite, a watch, a cap and a football with a Duck Commando logo on it. Cool.

Projection: South Carolina vs NC State
