The planets look better than what we have in Elite:D and you people still complain that it's not enough. The planets aren't even the main feature of the game and we weren't supposed to get them until AFTER release. CIG is delivering more than they promised and you still aren't satisfied with that. Oh there's no footprints! Oh the rocks use parallax or whatever! Who cares? The planets look good and if CIG think this is the best way to realize them then I don't think we have any right to complain. The Star Citizen beta isn't even coming out until 2018 so there's plenty of time for the visuals and details to improve. So please calm down until you've actually played it, there's no way to tell how good or bad it's really going to be from a 10 second video.

They already made their internal schedules public. What more could you possibly want? Not open development unless CIG mails their entire project plan to your front door?

They should do this but make sure they have like 10 different variations of their project plan just to make all the nerds fight each other and forget the game's progress.

And you actually believe that? Looked more like something knocked up in 30 seconds in MS Project to keep the naysayers quiet to me.

Incidentally, unless 2.6 goes to the Avocados today then they've already slipped on their internal schedule less than a week after mak^H^H^Hshowing it.

Now I'm not a game developer, but building detailed planetary surfaces without even a single completed solar system strikes me as a tad premature. If the goal is a fideltious sim where you can seamlessly transition from space to planet, it seems like having an idea of how orbits and things are going to work would be useful.

Also helpful would be your game engine being able to recognise the difference between atmosphere and a vacuum. That is surely a fundamental requirement for a space game.

Star Citizen's development is like someone has set out to build their own house, but before they've even purchased a plot of land or commissioned an architect they've bought all the fixtures and fittings.

If I was some sort of authority on humour I'd place that somewhere between the proverbial 'lowest form of humour' - puns (which this thread, and reddit, enjoys), and the *holds up spork* thing. If you don't consider that terrible, you're probably not in a position to judge the value of written entertainment, or basically anything.

Puns are the very highest form of humor marching powder.

Oh don't get me wrong. A lot of stuff getting posted in this thread is pretty terrible. But most of the time, you're doing a good job of calling it out. And I don't feel like my posting complaints need to clutter the thread when it's running fast.

Though the current mods do not care about stomping hard on unfunny low content posts.

No, my point is the reason the planets in E:D look the way they do is because their development team designed them to be seamlessly streamed to players in a multiplayer game at a decent FPS, in a product which they delivered on time 6 months ago.

The problem with Star Citizen isn't that the poo poo that they produce looks bad, it's that they constantly over promise and under deliver. Saying "Star Citizen has promised planets that look way better" isn't a defence of the game, it's literally the describing the biggest problem the project has.

I try to avoid demos. If I am going to play the game, I want to play the game. When there is something other than a demo for SC, I will give it a shot. Until then, and there's something other than one seriously crufty demo, I will point and laugh at their shoddy attempts to prove CIG can do better than electroplating what appears to me to be a large, poorly formed, extremely fetid turd. I am not letting the shiny chrome plating fool me.

What I want is to see them actually develop an actual game, rather than a cult-like marketing machine design to drain people with more money than sense, until all they have left is sense, with a side of despair.

Chris has really only done one thing right. Wing Commander. Everything after that was evolutionary, not revolutionary, leading me to wonder why anyone would expect him to deliver on his promises.
